Last night I parked my Vette outside of a building that's presently housing a TV series production company. When I got home I found a business card tucked under my wiper saying "Would you be interested in having your car in our television series? If so we might be interested in renting it and making it one of our reccuring cars."
I replied via e-mail and received a reply saying they would like to rent my car for one of their stars and it would play on a consistant basis as the character's car while filming is done for the next three months.
As this is more than just a car to me I replied that I was possibly interested but anything that needed the car to be out of my personal care would not be possible - which would mean that I would be the driver and caretaker of the vehicle at all times.
I mean let some movie hot-shot roar around in my pride & joy while I wasn't there? Ahemm. Yeah right.
I guess if they wanted to place a deposit for 1.5x the value of the car (plus an agreed on rental fee) I just might be vaguely interested. But then I'm sure they could lease one from a dealer for much less.
So far he hasn't gotten back to me. Did I just blow a chance of my car being the next Knight Rider's KITT?
You most likely made the right choice. You car probably wouldn't be driven much but would be a on a wide low trailer for shots. To simulate driving, you would have had 3-4 guys pushing up and down on your car, as it sat on the trailer. Rearview mirror would have been removed. Cords would have been gaff taped to the car. Microphone cords slammed in doors. Drinks taken by the actor in the car between takes. Scratches on paint as directors and PA's leaned into the car and talked to the actors. On the other hand, insurance is good, and will cover repairs. There is also the possibilty the show could be a hit and you could sell the car on Ebay for some ungodly amount
Totally not worth it, especially since you wouldn't be in the scenes. Now, if they threw in a position of being an "extra," or something tangible PLUS the rental fee....and deposit for possible damage, then maybe. MAYbe.
BTW, nice link to KnightRider. Embarassed to admit I watched that all the time.
Guess it would depend on who the star was...let's say it was Jennifer Aniston, I'd let her use it and afterwards have new seat skins installed so that I could make pillows out of the old ones.
I would have at least talked to them. I had a friend whose Cord was leased for a TV series years ago and it never left the trailer. He still got the $$$ and car wasn't used. Read contract first.
