Today i went to the mall. Went in, came out, got in my car and found out the hard way that the column lock problem that plagues corvettes had not been taken car of by the previous owner of the car . So I had to get a flatbed tow-truck to drag my car out of the parking spot then load it up and take it to chevy. It was 6pm so the service department was closed and I had to leave the keys in the night drop-box. I am very pissed because I am now without a car, even though I should hopefully have it back in the morning since this is a recall problem. It was just embarassing having to have my car towed out of the mall parking lot.
when I first installed my short shifter, one of the bolts came loose and jammed the shifter, not letting me get it out of neutral...I didn't have any tools on me to fix it, so I had to call the flat bed
I even had a ricer rev at me as he drove by while i was standing on the side watching my car get put on the flat bed
For one i dont have time to wait on ordering a clb kit. I couldnt leave the car in the parking lot overnight unless i wanted broken windows and slashed tires, and no the wheel wouldnt turn no matter what. To add to it, i just talked to the dealership and they said that the motor column lock motors itself was locked up and it wasnt covered under the recall and it cost $588. Now Im really pissed. Luckily I have an extended warranty and it should be covered.
,And if you think a previous owner has installed a clb but you're not sure, just see if the steering wheel turns with the key off.
Now that you mentioned it, I got curious and checked mine. Without the key in the ignition, I'm still able to turn the wheel to either side. Does this means that I have the the column lock issued resolved in the past? I just bought it a couple of months ago, so I don't know whats been done to it.

cool Thats one less thing to worry about.... Yellow o2 z06, I'm sorry to hear about your situation, I hope you get it resolved in the least expensive way possible. Now adays everything is money money money..
Funny that this is the 2nd post in the past day that dealer said it is the column lock motor that is bad. I wonder if this is the latest scam some dealers are employing to generate more $$$$$'s.
Also, wasn't there another recall that installed a plate to blocked the lock from even engaging, because the original recall didn't work?
