I'm one of the Z06 owners that needed new rings at 9,900 miles, but I still used 3 quarts of oil over the next 2,700 miles. I even kept it below 3,000 rpm for the first 1,000 miles. GM has offered to supply a "partial" new engine from the factory, but my mechanic will have to use some of my existing parts & re-assemble the engine when it reaches the dealership. This doesn't sound great to me! Could anyone explain the disadvantages of a "partial" new engine, instead of a completely assemble one from factory?
Thanks,

Re: Need Help--GM Offering a "Partial" New Engine (qwikz06)
This sounds like a reasonable 'next-step' to me. If new rings didn't cure the problem, the next culprit is probably the surfaces of the cylinder bores. Major machine work, so it's cheaper to replace the block, and transfer over the heads, intake, etc from your current engine. You should, however, clarify exactly what 'partial engine' means to the service department to be sure this is what they're talking about. They'd also probably like to send your old block to GM to let the engineers try to figure out what happened.
Re: Need Help--GM Offering a "Partial" New Engine (joecooool)
I asked GM to buyback my car, but they refused. GM is refusing to give any timeframe that the block will be available & I have a Nov. 15th hearing date with the Calif. BBB. Does anyone have any info on these BBB hearings?
