After washing the C5 today, I started the car up and it cut off as soon as I put it into gear. The service alert steering Column lock came on but the car will not move. Did the water, damage something, or is a reset in my future. How can I reset this computer with out towing the car to the service department. Help guys I know this is something simple because the car runs strong.
Sorry but it's not a simple issue nor does it have anything to do with how strong your car runs. The column lock problem has been around since 1997 and it ain't going away.
Use your search feature...there are literally dozens and dozens of posts about this issue.

Go to the Tech forum and look at the top (all the way up) in the stickies and look for steering column lock and get comfortable 'cause there's much to read. But do yourself a big favour and read about it, write down any questions you may gather and under no circumstances ever let a GM dealership touch your car pertaining to this problem. Their fix has you in the position that you are experiencing right now.
Thanks fella's, I"m just blown that it starts and runs but as soon as it go's into gear it cuts off. That should be a security issue. Well it's time to read the tech files.
The reason your engine cuts off is because thats they way GM programmed it when they did the recall. If the computer detects a problem with the steering lock (real or perceived) it will cut the fuel at 2mph as a safety feature. You more then likely have a faulty harness which should be covered under the recall. By the way the latest recall came out in Feb 06, so you probably did not have that done. However I would still not have them perform any more recalls and instead purchase the CLB once this problem is resolved.
