When you hit redline in the M6/12, the word SHIFT will appear in the HUD display. Kinda' hard to see which is why I installed a Raptor shift light. I set it to light up at 6500 since I have a head/cam setup installed.
Got a raptor. Works great, is adjustable to your shift ability. You will never see that little shift thingy in the hud when at full throttle. You need something brighter to get your attention.
As the first poster says, it says "shift", not a light. It comes at 5750, IIRC. I have tried it, but you better be fast with the shift or you hit the rev limiter. I believe it is covered in the Owners Manual.
It is very difficult to see (and it's not a 'light' - but a "shift" notice).
If you've come close to the rev limiter the light has more than likely come on (if you ever have the opportunity to dyno the Vette that will allow you to concentrate on the dash, and possibly provide you the opportunity to verify that it is working).
Many members have installed after- market shift "lights" - they do provide more intense 'notice' that shifting is necessary at given RPM's.
I have a 98 A4 and noticed it last night in the HUD. My neighbor and the person that owned the car before was able to upgrade the car with the HUD. I was wondering if this is normal or was the light coming on because the HUD did not originally belong in a 98. Also, should I back off the gas when this happens? The other thing I was wondering is if the tranny was slipping. Never had an auto that redlined that high. The car has been tuned as well, not sure if that has somthing to do with it.
