hello everyone, i was installing a 160 stat today and i thought i should change my clutch fluid to since it was kind of burned up, i also noticed that my brake fluid is very black and needs to be changed. can i use prestone dot 4 brake fluid and can i use a syringe to take out the fluid or do i need to go another way. thanks
Another solution would be to install Speedbleeders on each caliper. They have a checkball built in them, you open the bleeder 1/2 turn and bleed that caliper. I also used Motorcraft high performance brake fluid. Supposed to be one of the higher boiling point fluids.
buy yourself the Motive Pressure Bleeder. It is easy to use.
Take the old brake fluid out of the reservoir.
Add new brake fluid.
Attach the pressure bleeder to the reservoir
pressurize the bleeder to 12-15 lbs.
open your bleeder valve and wait for the new fluid to come through
Just make sure you dont run out of fluid in the reservoir.
It is very easy to use and a 1 person job.
That is exactly what I do. I use 2 quarts of fluid, I use Castrol GT LMA (Low Moisture Absorbtion) but many here use Valvoline synthectic.
Yes makes bleeding your brakes a one person job, no need for "help" from the wife.
You could use the syringe, I did mine that way as my brake fluid was dark also. You need to do it at least one a week until the fluid is clear. Mine took 3 times and it's nice and clear.

Heck, it took me 40 years to train my wife on this; and, now, you tell me that she is "not needed." Are you crazy, man!!
After reading this post I looked at my brake fluid and it was DARK black so I went and bought a synringe from Advanced auto and it worked awesome. Thanks for the info.
