I've been playing around with my new Z06 on the street prior to taking it to
Etown next week.Having previously had a '99 FRC as a daily driver for the past 3 years and having made a considerable number of 1/4 mile runs, there
is an unusual difference in the 2 cars. With the Z06,in 1st gear ,under heavy acceleration,it feels like the rear tires are alternately grabbing. It's a very subtle
effect and happens in/out COMPETETIVE MODE.Is it an interaction between the
posi rear and the higher torque of the Z?Would changing the fluid in the rear
help?
Car is going perfectly straight,no sideways acceleration, why should AH kick in? I've driven a Z06 for 3 days at BraggSmith and engaged the AH on every lap. When its engaged, you feel a slight pulsing of the brake pedal. That is not
happening in the present case.Nevertheless,I'll just turn the AH off to see what happens.
Richy, just a posibility but the 02 have "the power hop algorithm " even if you turn off t/c or use comp mode. Check out Hib Halverson article in the Jan 02 issue of GM High-Tech Performance Magazine for more. Ric
Richy,
I've noticed my '02 Z getting kind of "squishy" in the back end when getting on it. By squishy, I mean the car squirms around enough to need minor steering corrections. It almost feels like wheelspin, but I don't hear any screeching of the tires. If I leave the car in "normal' mode (i.e. traction control "on") the rev limiter cuts in right after I shift, as if it is trying to prevent wheel spin. As I said before, I don't hear a sound from the tires. I can't believe the wheels can spin without making noise, but I guess that's what's happening.
Anti hop algerim is aimed at controling wheel hop on hard launch, buy pulling timeing and fuel. it can not be turned off but if you realy do get better 60' times it's worth geting used to how it feels. I was pleasently suprised engenering spent the time a money on it. Can't wait to see how much it helps the 02 over the 01 launch. Ric

I've had my tires spinning like tops, where you can see twin ribbons of rubber appearing in your rear-view mirror, and have yet to hear a sound from them, other than a kind of hissing sound. And yes .. it does get a little squirrelly in the rear under acceleration .. I generally have to feather the throttle to keep it going straight.
