Default Charging System Fault message????

Three times yesterday during a road rallye and once today the message board on our 99 coupe came up with this message. I pressed reset and it went away but.....what might it be referring to? Is this something that will get worse and eventually result in a major problem? Should I take it to a mechanic to have it checked out?

Any advice/help would be appreciated

Stupid me...should have done a search first...I found some good information. No need to respond

The last time I had this message, I hadn't driven the car in a while (low battery charge), it was hot (A/C on) and night (headlights on). I'm guessing that it was caused by a low charge on the battery and a full electrical load. I have been very diligent about keeping the battery charged up when not driving for a while, and haven't had anymore problems. You might have your battery checked if it is more than a few years old.
