Default GMPP and Shocks

I have a creaking coming from the front suspension. I'm sure it is the shocks.

How can I get my GMPP to pay to replace them? The GMPP book says it does not cover shock absorbers. but it does not mention anything about struts.

We have shocks, not struts....so if GMPP doesn't replace shocks, then you're out of luck. Good thing is you can get some C6 Z06 shocks for around 200.00 for all 4. Makes a big difference and they're easy to put on.

I got mine from Gene at gmpartshouse.com. I can't remember the exact price, but I think it was around 200 for the set of 4.

Turns out that the dealer misinformed me... GMPP will not be replacing the shocks period.

The dealer quoted a little over $1k to do all 4.

I will look for other alternatives.

Just got off the phone with a friend of mine. He said he would have one of techs do it for $30 once I get the shocks.

Looks like Ill be placing my order with Gene.

You might want to clarify that installation price. I'm sure he's a good friend but it will take at least four hours to replace all four shocks. That comes out to about $350 normal shop prices. He may be talking $30 each but that even sounds too good to be true.

GMPP does not cover shock absorbers -- I guess they are considered a wear and tear item like brake pads, rotors, windshield wiper blades, etc.
Those of us with the Mag Ride suspension ('03-'04) may need second mortgages when these shocks have to be replaced.

Did a search (and I'm hope I'm wrong!):

MSRP left side: $818 each x 2 = $1,636 -- discounted price: $622 each x 2 = $1,244

MSRP right side: $729 each x 2 = $1,458 == discounted price: $554 each x 2 = $1,108

$2,352 PARTS ONLY install extra!!

PS -- The option cost $1,695.00 when I bought the car new. Geez.

are you planning on installing just the front two C6 Z06 ?? and leaving the old rear shocks. the rears should be done at the same time if you dont want the car feeling a little odd in the corners. the C6 Z shocks are a bunch firmer than the std C5 shocks and will leave the car feeling very sloppy if only the fronts are done. that $30 install price is very cheap. i had a mech at work do mine and the fronts are more difficult then the rear to install. he charged me $100 for the four of them. if you just need the fronts and would like to pay the shipping i have two std shocks off my 2000 with 38k on them i will just give you.
they are base suspension shocks and seemed fine to me.

consider yourself for warned. the C6 Z06 shocks are much much firmer than the C5 FE1 shocks. they will shake a loose filling right out of your teeth on rough roads. they do feel great in the corners though. and compliment a car equiped with Z06 sways very nicely

I would recommend Bilstein shocks. I have Bilstein sports and am very happy with them.
