Default Ok---NOW I'm getting ticked HELP PLEASE

Ok--alot of you know this story but....

When I got my car last year it had a bad OPS and I got it changed over the winter. Got my back from the garage and shortly there after the OPS went again. Thank God for Jim--he sent me one right away cause we were in jeopardy of not being able to make CI---so obviously I got it fixed and we made it to CI. Yesterday my F@%@$^ing OPS bit the freakin dust yet AGAIN.

Now I am getting VERY agitated. So besides getting yet another OPS can someone tell me what other things we might want to check? I mean there has got to be something that is making these things go bad right?

Any suggestions would be great guys

TIA
Lori

Are you using GM parts, or aftermarket? I dont even know if that really matters, but its worth a shot.

Was wondering the same, but I hear they are prone to failure which is not fun because where it is located. I think I read that some have installed a Buick sensor.

Unfortunately they are just common failures, thus far it doesn't look like anyone has found a different sensor even from all different manufacturers. They are all aluminum bodied rather than the original brass. There are theories that the area the sensor is in is to hot or that our oil pressure is higher causing the failures as the same sensor in other motors don't seem to have an issue. I just today picked up my new OPS for my 2k1, I got it from the stealer as they have a 12month warranty on parts... I'm hoping I won't have to use it though.

I forgot, there is a huge thread in the Tech section about oil sensor relocation, different sensors, and easy ways to swap them out.

OK, here's what I can gather about the OPS's.
It's a common problem. They are aluminum bodied. Located in an area where heat is a problem. Aluminum + heat= BOOM!
I've just spent an hour reading the thread on OPS's over in C5 tech.
People are doing everything from relocating the unit, to adapting a brass Buick unit onto their C5.
There is information on how to make it a much easier job, but it involves cutting your firewall. No big deal really, but that might bother some people.

Here's a link to the information.

P.S. Please tell Wayne thanks for the link for the chrome oil filler cap. Got mine today, and it looks GREAT! Mine came with the C5 logo on top of the filler cap, instead of the mobile 1 information. I like it much better.

The stealerships are always willing to replace the part but its the cost of having the damn thing installed that is killing me Luckily my mechanic has not charged me for any of the failures--great vette brother

Thanks for the info

Prone is mild---at this point its lucky I don't throw a match to it---totally frustrating---but I love my car to much so we will just have to figure something out
