Hi
I am new to this forum and I am looking for some advice. I have a 04 CE. Recently when I drive the vette and back it out of the garage, I hear a clinking noise coming from the read end when the vette is backing-up and turning. I remember this was a problem with my C3 vette when the rear end fposi-traction fluid was low. The clicking noise seems to go away once the vette has been driven for a while.
What do you think?
Thanks for your help.
I think I may have this same problem with my recently purchased '04 Z. The noise is more of a grinding sound, and seems to come up through the shifter area (I have a Hurst, so its already noisy). But the noise only exists at slow speeds and while turning....also especially as the clutch pedal is engaging going into first, second, or reverse.
Basically, if I'm at a stop, and slip the clutch out in first gear while turning, that's when its especially bad. NO noise when slipping the clutch off a start if not turning the wheel (I thought this was weird?) Otherwise, the clutch feels fine and the steering feels fine. Any ideas?
The noise that I hear and feel is only coming from the back of the car, and only occures while the car is turning. The noise is more pronounced while going slowly.
Have you heard this type of noise with your 04?
I'm pretty sure this is the same noise I've got. Mine is also only when turning and going slow at the same time. However, mine also seems to be while I'm slipping the clutch...but the clutch feels fine and handles high-rpm shifts fine (so I'm pretty sure its not the clutch). I seem to hear and feel the noise thru the shifter, but I think its from the rear of the car, as you said. The Hurst is just so noisy, I think it sounds like its coming from there.
Can anyone help point out what this is? I'm guessing the rear differential? Do you think its just low on fluid or the differential needs replacing? I have a GMPP $0 ext. warranty....so this would be covered right??
The clicking is the rear axle nuts/splines. There's a few how-to's on fixing it. Nothing is wrong, but it needs to be lubed. You can pop off your wheel or wheel center cap only and see the nut. You need to remove it then slide the axle a little nad get it lubed, then re-torque.
it might also be that your rear tires are making nosie while your trying to turn @ slow speeds. because they are so wide they tend to skip-skip alittle.
