Default Low Oil Level

Get the sensor checked. Just had mine replaced about 4 hours ago. Something about the float or something in the sensor hanging up.

If it's just the oil level sensor, drive it around a little. Hit some bumps, maybe it'll free up. Did you reset it on the DIC after you drove it?

Yeah I did, it comes up when I put the key in and again when I start the car. If I reset with just the key in it will come up again when I start the car.

If the oil level looks OK on the dipstick, you might want to replace the sensor.

I drove the car about 40 miles, and started to hear some strange noise, I really cant describe them when I heard the I thought maybe a something was caught in the radiator fan. Pulled over investigated nothing, checked the oil and it was just a tick above the "low" line. So added a quart of Mobile 1 5w 30 ran it for a couple minutes, stilled show low, added a half quart, ran it five minutes showed a tick over the high mark, the noise went away, perhaps valve train noise because they where running dry??? Drove 40 miles back and the Low engine oil warning didn't come back on and the car sounded fine. Very strange, Everywhere I stopped I checked for leaks nothing, engine compartment looks clean. Maybe my car was just testing me to see if I love her, as many of the women in my life have done.

How much oil did you initially refill with? Most C-5's take 6.5 quarts with filter. My car ('04) takes 7 to bring it to the top of the full line.

about 6.5, I'm going to drive the car on my lunch break and re test it, if it shows above the max fill again I will remove a half quart and see it the low oil warning comes on again.

I have an '03 Coupe. I once had the oil changed at a local mechanic. He used 6 quarts Mobil 1 5w -30. I did not realize that the car actually takes 6 liters of oil which is 6.5 quarts. When I made a 3000 mile road trip the low oil level light went on. I checked and it needed 3/4 of a quart! Check your specifications and make sure you put in the correct amount of oil.
