Pre 2001 cars had a set screw in the bottom that could be tightened against the windshield mount. The 2001 and newer cars - the mount is a spring clip. You can try pulling down at the base of the mirror (gently!) to see if that tightens it up a little.

Ha, you are correct sir! I read through my FSMs and they are for my '01 where the procedure says to remove the set screw. I looked and looked and there isn't one. Demonstrates Helm being right on top on things with accurate service manuals!
Anyway I used the method it says to remove: grab both ends and rock back and forth while lift up... comes right off. And yep it is a spring clip metal part that is affixed to the plastic base of the mirror stem.
I took a small screwdriver and bent in on each of the tangs some, and reinstalled it. Seemed to have worked at least from my short test drive last evening.
Safelite glass company is the one's who caused this by not knowing how to take it off properly twice when they installed a replacement HUD windshield and then again when they had to re-do the entire job having noticed that windshield was defective. (I made them replace everything with brand new out of the GM boxes trim and weatherstrip along with a brand new HUD windshield, pre-inspected before hand.)
