Hey everyone, I just bought new back tires and had them mounted. To make a long story short one tire was out of round so I had to get a new one mounted on. When they mounted the new tire and removed the weights they scratched the inside of my rim ; is there anything I can do to try and remove the scratch? The shop owner said that it probably happened when they removed the weights since they are on so well. He said that fine sand paper would smooth the scratch out. I've used the search function and couldn't find anything helpful. Looking for any ideas before I take anything to the wheel.
Thanks

We'll need to know whether you have polished or chrome. If their chrome I think you ask them for a new wheel. If they are polished we'll need to see a photo so we can tell how deep the scratch is.
They scrathced the inside of the barrel? Those stickey weights usually aren't to hard to get off. I usually pry up a bit with a screw driver and it pulls right off. Usually leaves some stickeyness. if it is on the very inside, not the part you can see, i wouldn't worry bout it
They are polished and the scratch is not very deep more of a surface scratch. The scratch is on the inside, but I'd like to remove it if possible. Any ideas?
You are too parsimonious with info - okay, we now know the wheel is polished, but is it clearcoated or not? If not, and the metal is actually scraped/gouged, all you can do is abrade away the surrounding surface until it is flush and smooth and then repolish the surface. If clearcoated, is the scratch just in the clearcoat? If so it can be sanded and repainted. If deeper, then grind away plus respray the clearcoat.
It's a shame the grease monkey obviously used an improper tool (like a screwdriver) to remove the weight - there is absolutely no reason to have to mar the wheel surface to remove stick-on weights. Sorry for your aggravation.
