When I brake hard (travelling >50mph) the car tends to swerve left
or right before coming to a complete stop. Is this behavior attributed
to uneven wearing of the brake pads?
The rear brake pads squeak when braking and I know they are failing. The
front brake pads are good. I am changing brake pads on all 4 wheels
with Hawk cermanic pads soon.
Brake pads are bad, I can tell from the squeaks and the accumulation of brake dust on the wheels. How do I tell if rotors are bad or not?
I have the slotted and drilled rotors and an eye-ball inspection shows me a very smooth surface with good shine. I have Eradispeed rotors (a year old at most).
Squeaks and dust do not necessarily indicate anything about the brake pad condition. All sorts of pads squeak and dust from the day they are installed. Your pads could be fine and there could be a totally different problem.
Take the wheels off and visually check your brake pads, calipers and rotors for proper condition and operation. Since the car swerves to both the left and right it is harder to say what might be the cause.
