I have a 2000 FRC. In what ways is the Z06 exhaust better. Is it worth buying the exhaust from a Z06 owner that is replacing theirs. Is the sound better, will I get any horsepower increases?
If you can get one from the 2002 Z06...It sounds so good, I have people who have the corsas and the borlas on theirs to tell me to keep mine because it sound so good...It truly does..
The '02 Z06 exhaust is sweet. In '02, the pup cats were eliminated .. I don't know what problems that might create if you're contemplating a swap. Also don't know about O2 sensor locations, or whether that's a factor. I think the swap would sound and perform well, but you need to examines all the issues before you jump in .. IMHO.
The O2 sensors are on the H pipe, you can put what ever you want after that - including the titanium exhaust - without throwing codes.
PS - the 01 & 02 Z06 exhaust is identical except the 02 has the pre cats removed. The titanium parts are the same with the same GM stock number. They retail for $1,013 each side.
I hate to dispute you, Joecool, but I crawled under a new 2002 Z06 to check the part numbers, and both sides mufflers have different part numbers from the 2001 Z06's, so I believe there is an internal difference there that helps the sound on the '02s.
Sorry, but thats not correct. The part numbers for the 01 and 02 are one and the same. They have two part numbers for each muffler, some were shipped with 1.1mm thickness and others .8mm. I called three different dealers to verify this because I am selling my pipes and wanted to make sure I had the correct information. The size is not related to the year, both the 01's and the 02's have been built with both sizes. The part numbers for the left are 10303856 and 10318352, and the right are 10318353 and 10303853.
None of the dealers had an explaination as to the different sizes or why both part numbers were on both model years. Price wise, they are the same. The difference in over all weight is less than four ounces.
joecool, do you know which part number is for which thickeness, and what is the thickness you are referring to? Is it the thickness of the sheet used to make the muffler or the wall thickness of the pipe?
