ok i have done many searches on this before you tell me to search... i have installed the column lock kit like everyone told me. i still get the pull key wait 10 seconds and the car dies.. anyone have any other ideas why this is happening
I will occasionally get that myself. I too have the CLB, but it had been to the dealer on 2 previous 'fixes'.
Not 100% certain, but I think when the dealer does a recall on it, they re-flash the computer and that is and may continue to be a problem. I know of no work-around for it.
May sure key pellet is clean is all I've been told.
Does it happen after you fill up with fuel? Mine has done that and I noted in the book the processors or computers will readjust for differing fuel qualities or types. Also a bad battery condition will cause it along with poor grounds.
I've had the same problem, I cleaned the key about 3 months ago and it seemed to be fixed, but it happened. I cleaned the key again. We'll see how long it stays fixed.
I have only had it happen once and that was after filling up on the way to Le Mans (I thought the entire weekend was about to be ruined and we were coming back on a transporter).
I waited the 10 seconds and it hasn't happened since.
However I have taken advice and it seems to be connected to the Column Lock problem and the recall. My Z06 had the first recall but it was exported to the UK and hasn't had the second recall.
I'm no expert on this subject but am happy to be guided by those with more knowledge than me and this is what I was advised: It looks like you have had the first revision of the recall done.
Not the newer version where a feedback relay is installed.
So, I would suggest simply plugging in the newer relay and you should be fine afterwards.
I will be picking up the relay when I come over for Corvettes at Carlisle later this month.
Would I be correct in saying that because I can still hear the column locking and unlocking, I do not have a CLB installed??

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the best way to tell is to try to turn your steering wheel with the car off and the key out. If it turns, you have a CLB.

Thank you - good suggestion I tried it and the steering wheel wouldn't move. As usual, I was very relieved when it unlocked as well!!!!

yes i have a 1997... anyone ever fix this problem for good?? i have never had a column lock problem but i installed the kit anyway... i dont even know if the 2 are related
My 98 never had any problems. I did the latest recall and they removed the locking plate. Shortly after my security light comes one after driving randomly (don't know if it is related). I got the pull key message once and then waited then I took off. I think the best way is to clean the pellet and key with rubbing alcohol every month. Am I wrong in assuming that at this point installing a clb aftermarket will NOT help my situation?
