I've had good luck buying the fobs on that auction site. But one thing to remember - the fobs were different '97 through '00 and are not interchangeable with the '01 - '04. Unfortunately the newer fobs are much less expensive than the older style.

As far as buying new ones - FOB training is in your owners manual, follow the procedures outlined there and you should be good to go, once you've procured the correct vintage FOB. Check page 2-10 in your owner's manual for instructions.

Fob is unique for 2000. Should run about $75-$100. Not cheap. Programing is very easy.

Thanks for the info! One thing though, are you sayin that the '97 to '00 are all different too and I have to find one made for '00 or are you sayin that '97 to '00 are the same, but different from '01-04? Thanks again!

Actually, the 97-99's are also different than the 00's. The number of the fob you want is 10432147. They are for the 00's only. You can try your luck with used one's, but I've found that some of them work for a while only to quit after a short peroid of time. Contact Gene Culley at www.gmpartshouse.com for the best price on new ones. I believe they are around $87. As blacksedan87 stated above, your owner's manual has all the info you need for training them. If the car dosen't come with the manual, Gene has those on his website also. They are free to download. Congrats and enjoy the car, bro.

You can get them at a discounted price from Gene at the GMPartsHouse.com. Once you have them, follow the instructions in your owners manual for programming them to the car. Very easy to do.

Key fob
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A wooden key fob made by aarikka of FinlandA key fob is a decorative item many people often carry with their keys, on a ring or a chain, for ease of tactile identification, to provide a better grip, or to make a personal statement. Key fobs are often mistakenly called "key rings" or "key chains" in colloquial usage.

Fobs vary considerably in size, style and functionality. Most commonly they are simple discs of smooth metal or plastic, typically with a message or symbol such as that of a logo (as with conference tchotchke) or a sign of an important group affiliation. A fob may be symbolic or strictly aesthetic, but it can also be a small tool. Many fobs are small flashlights, compasses, calculators, penknives, store discount cards, bottle openers, or USB flash drives.

Electronic key fobs are used for remote keyless entry systems on motor vehicles. Early electric key fobs operated using infrared and required a clear line of sight to function. These could be copied using a programmable remote control. More recent models use challenge-response authentication over radio frequency, so these are harder to copy and do not need line of sight to operate. Programming these remotes sometimes require the automotive dealership to connect a diagnostic tool but many of them can be self-programmed by following a sequence of steps in the vehicle and usually requires at least 1 working key. Vehicle specific programming requirements can be found through online web sites like KeylessRide http://www.keylessride.com.

Key fobs are increasingly used in apartment buildings and condominium buildings for access to common areas (ie. lobby doors, storage areas, fitness room, pool). They can be programmed to allow access only to those areas in which the tenant or owner is permitted to access, or only within certain time frames.

Telecommuters may also use an electronic device known as a key fob that provides one part of a three way match to log in over an unsecure network connection to a secure network. This kind of key fob may have a keypad on which the user must enter a PIN into to retrieve an access code, or it could be a display-only device such as a VPN token that algorithmically generates security codes as part of a challenge/response authentication system. The most well-known example of the latter type is RSA's SecurID token.

Actually it doesn't stand for anything. Its one of those "words" they come up with when they need a new word, like dongle.

Oh.

I thought "fob" actually stood for something. Old military training, I guess it's just in me. I always called mine a remote.

That's a rip...don't you think! I got mine via the stealership for about $100 scoots. They even threw in the programming for free! What a great group of guys!!!!

Of course, when I asked them to install my Window Valet, they balked? I suppose it was the lawyers worrying over me accidently raising the window on my head and suing them?

HTH,

The 97-99 fobs have the passive switch (PITA) the 2000 does not. All of them have FCCID AB00216T and ALL will work on a 97-00 C5.
The 2000 doesn't use the passive fn and if you use a 00 fob on a 97-99 it works fine just doesn't have the passive fn. BIGHANK

If you have a 2000 model, just buy the one the manufacturer says works with the car. In this case 10432147 is the number.
