Default Longest surviving A4 transmission...

I know that there are many high mileage Vettes on here. For those with an A4 tranny, how well did it hold up? Anyone here wih 150K plus on the original A4?

I have just over 100K on my 2003 A4 Coupe. The car is stock as far it it would affect the tranny...no engine mods. 70% or more highway miles. The engine rarely sees above 3K rpm. Tranny fluid has been flushed three times. My A4 seems to be good as new. That said, I plan to visit EG for a new RPM transmission in a few months because I don't want my tranny blow up while I am in the middle of nowhere.

Let's hear it...how has your A4 done?

Auto do not just randomly blow up it will show signs long before a catastrophic failure ask me how I know.

If it is shifting fine You should be ok, on the other hand a new RPM tranny is never a bad thing while your at it do some bolt on mods Before you know it you will be broke but have a 700HP car.

That's what I'm thinking. The new transmission will be partly a precaution and partly an excuse for a road trip to Florida when things cool off in NC. I may have a few other things done at the same time. I don't need 700 hp though This is my daily driver. I enjoy the adequate power, good gas mileage and reliability. However, I am in the market for a second Vette, an '08 or possibly a C6 Z06 for heavier modding.

Mine lasted about 85k miles before it started slipping badly. It failed within a few days of the first sign. At the end the car would only go 65mph anywhere from 1500 rpm on up to redline. Extended warranty gave me a factory rebuild with 100k warranty for $100.

Still original unopened at 233,800 miles. I do get the dreaded P1870 code for trans component slipping though. I recently replaced the TCC solenoid and harness in hopes of a quick fix. But I guess I need a valve body. The TCC valve has worn in its bore and I'm sure fluid seaps past the valve. When cold and the fluid is thicker it works perfectly. But drive it 40 miles and you can feel it's not locking up. It chirps the tires when shifting from first to second. At this point I'm not going to fix anything else as a valve body will cost me a few hundred as compared to a grand or so for a replacement trans. Oh by the way thats doing the labor myself.

That's some serious mileage man. Thanks for your post. Maybe mine doesn't have one foot in the grave.
