Default C6 Z06 Shifter problem....

Hey guys....I have a problem...I swapped out my stock shifter for a c6 z06 shifter about a year ago. It was a big improvement and was fine until about a month ago. Basically, getting into any gear is not as easy as it used to be but the ones that give me the most problems are 2nd, 5th and reverse. Sometimes it will just pop out of second. And when I go to put it in reverse it will go into 5th. What can be causing this? What is the solution? Please help if you can!

Did you check it where its connects to the linkage, I had to adjust mine a little when I installed, maybe it has moved on you ?

Try re-aligning shifter. Take apart, loosen the two T40 housing shifter bolts, stick in alignment pin. make sure the rear T40 bolt on shift rod is tight, then re-tighten the two shifter housing bolts.

When was the last time you replaced your trans fluid? My MN6 was shifting poorly, my symptoms where not as bad as yours, untill I replaced my trans fluid; I have 64k miles on my 02 Vette.

Just a thought, good luck!

Based on what you said about it being certain gears, it might be alignment or worn out / bent shift forks , synchros.

Assuming the worst case scenario, how costly a situation can this become?

That depends on your mechanical abilities. If you can remove drive train yourself and ship off tranny, you can save a fortune.

Probably best bet would be to contact rodney at RPM and let him give you specifics if shifter adjustment or clean fluid doesn't do the trick.

Only other external item would be to inspect shift rod and you really can't do that until you drop tranny.

I would think in the worst case depending on tranny rebuild you go with $2K.

Another symptom i just thought of......when it is in neutral and i move it side to side...it will stay slightly leaning toward the last direction in which it was moved as opposed to returning straight to the middle

Same here. I switched to Amsoil synthetic and all my problems went away.

Sounds like the internal shifting rod springs are weak.

The shifter you're using has no centering springs in it.
