Default getting drag radials

hello everyone, i want to go ahead and get some 315/35/17 drag radials, but i don't know what size of rim i should get. should i go with a 8.5 or a 9.5. also wanted to know if i would have any rubbing issues or anything else to worry about. thanks

Depends totally on the brand. Nitto's are considerably more narrow than the BFG's and other brands.

You can put a 315 Nitto on a 9" wheel. If you tried this with a BFG it would bulge badly which can have many negative affects given the right impact to the tire.

take a look at the MT ET Street radial, they seem to be the best hooking DR out there.

Use at least a 9.5 inch rim and if you can get one a 10.5 would be even better if you plan on driving the car on the street.

If your gonna be running a 8.5-9.5" wheel then go with the MT Street radials... if your gonna run a 10-11" wheel then the BFG Drag Radial. The Nittos are good but will not deliver the performance of either the MT or BFG.... they will however last much longer and do offer some tread should you be using them in any kind of inclimate weather. It all depends on what you want to do. If this is gonna be a dedicated set of wheels for track use only then you really should look at the MT's

The MT Street Radial 275.40.17 is very hard on a stock clutch. It requires a launch rpm of 4600-5200. I'd estimate about 100 passes before the clutch needs replacement. The preferred wheel for this tire is the C5Z front, 17" x 9.5.

If you want longer clutch life but still very good traction, the BFG 315.35.17 are best, and certainly better than the Nitto in the same size. The BFG need a launch rpm of 3600-4200. And will give about 200 passes before the clutch needs replacement. I've run the BFGs on wheel widths from 9.5" to 12". Haven't noticed any significant difference in logging my results.

On my C6Z, I'm currently running the 315/17 BFGs on C5Z front wheels. They are doing fine for me in this configuration.

Owners are reminded that if you transition to drag radials, there is a new learning curve to ride.
(1) You must do a burnout to heat the tires Burnout Without a Line Lock

(2) Launch procedure needs adjustment General Launch Techniques

(3) You must do clutch fluid maintenance Taking Care of Your Clutch
