Default Magnaflow or Borla?

I'm changing my C5 exhaust system and would like to hear the pro's and con's, if any, on Magnaflow. I like the looks of the Borla system and the deep sound but know little about the Magnaflows? Any comments? Tks

totally depends on the system of each name brand. Borla have both soft and loud tones, depending on sys. Magnaflow tend to be "deeper" in sound when compared to most other systems. it might help us if you tell us what you are looking for in sound, but in person listening is always the best idea.

I'm looking for an aggressive sound on acceleration and a less aggressive tone inside the car while cruising. I'm schuleded for a Borla change at Carlisle but I saw the special CC is offering on Magnaflows and may cancel my Borla appointment for the Mags. What I'd really want to know is, which system is louder? I've heard the Borla and like what I hear but the Mags are a few $100 less and include the x pipe.

They are both good systems. If you want a deeper more aggressive sound, you want to go with the Borla Stinger system. If you are going to Carlisle, you might want to wait and listen to both on a few cars before you decide. Folks are more than happy to start their Vettes up for you if you ask them nicely. That is always the best method in my opinion. Good Luck with it.

Speaking strictly from word of mouth. You might want to consider resonance or drone. Most people I have talked to and read on this forum, will tell you Borla Stingers have drone in the rpm range at cruising speed, like if you take a long road trip. I have heard enough feedback to assume it is significant. Magnaflows also have been said to have drone. But it appears to be of lesser volume. Many say Magnaflow has no drone at all. Most say Borla has a lot and it's annoying.

Borlas definately. Installed myself, took less than 30 minutes. The idle sound and wide open are unique and awesome. Go to youtube and check out some videos before you buy.

I've got Magnaflows on the Vert and Borlas on the Z. The Borlas are louder and and do produce a drone at higher rpms. The Magnaflows are perfect for a daily driver or trip car. They both sound good, it just depends on what you want.

I have the Borla Stinger with the quad oval tips. With the stock H-pipe, there was drone between 1500 - 1700 RPM. I recently installed a Bassani X-pipe. The drone was reduced significantly, although it is still there. The X-pipe also slightly mellowed out the sound at idle, although the sound at idle is still just fine as far as I am concerned.

Have Magnaflows now but have had Borla Stingers and Performance Series. Magnaflows sound better and deeper than both IMHO however the Borla Stingers are a bit louder but have a somewhat "hollow" sound for lack of a better word. The Borla Performance Series are a not nearly as deep sounding as and a bit quieter than the Magnaflows.

The Magnaflows are perfect for a daily driver. Love listening to them as I go through the gears. Make driving that much more fun and without ever getting annoying.

Magnaflows have the best quality and the best looking tips IMO and the entire catback is fully polished to a mirror finish. You won't get that with the Borlas or any other brand. They are built sturdy but are pretty heavy.

Thanks for the help! I appreciate all of your comments! This information is important to anyone in the market for a new exhaust system. So, Borla's are louder then Mags with a slight droning at certain rpm's. An X-pipe will reduce the droning but will also mellow the aggressive tone. Mags are not as loud as Borla and droning isn't as much of an issue.. Both are well made.. Borla has a few issues with keeping the tips straight and lined up? Its amazing how much you can learn from a few honest comments.

I know you are not asking about the corsa pace car... but I would have a listen if you havent already.. I have them on my vert and they are very aggressive when you want them to be and almost factory on the highway...(Just my .02)

Good Idea

I have the Stingers and I don't think they drone and pop enough Then again the Death Metal of the late 80's/early 90's may have something to do with that

Have Borla Stingers and like them but they do have the drone at cruise.
I am experimenting with sound absorbing materials to help control that in my coupe.
