Default Finally installed a CLB

After owning my 02 Z for a year I finally decided after reading all the threads to install a CLB. I got the part from Corvettes of Houston and installation was quick and simple. I sure don't miss hearing the locking pin as you remove the key. It always gave me an uneasy feeling. Hopefully I just saved myself a headache down the road.

Good post, reminds me to do mine - I've had a CLB new in a box for ~2 years. Once the column lock happens, it's too late!

I keep planning on a dash/bezel mod which seems like the perfect time to do a CLB install, maybe I'll get all that going soon.

So thats what the sound is after I remove the key. I always wondered what it was. How much was the CLB if you don't mind me asking??

After shipping it was around $50. When it isn't broken it was hard to justify, but I kept hearing stories about being stranded and repair bills. Helping others not make the same mistakes is what makes this forum so great.

I just did the CLB install a few weeks ago on my 02 Zee. Not many miles on it, so the risk factor was a little lower, but figured I better do it soon before I get "bit".

For you guys who have CLB kits sitting around in the box ... go do it, only takes 30 ~ 60 min depending on how fast you work. Once in, you won't have to think about it anymore.

Look for the little black box under the driver's side knee bolster.

An easier way is to listen carefully when you shut the car off and remove the key. If there is a CLB installed, you will hear nothing. If there is not a CLB installed, you will hear a buzz sound for a second or two right after pulling out the key.

I guess I've had the CLB in for so long I forgot about that.

So i definetly need to spend the $50 and install a CLB before I get stranded somewhere, or the misses does.

I actually purchased the CLB before I took delivery of my car. Too many horror stories about the issue to take a chance in my opinion. In the end nobody's steering column is locked whether you do the CLB or the GM recall.

I've heard way too many horror stories about the GM column lock recall fix.

Consensus from the members here would be to buy the aftermarket CLB and install it instead of letting GM "try" to fix it with their messed up recall.

Is it the same thing when I put the key in and turn it? I hear a little buzz right before I start it.
