I still can't believe that in 2004 just because I have a 12 disk CD changer in the trunk they put a radio in the dash WITH AN AUDIO CASSETTE! What were they thinking? I haven't listened to an audio cassette in 10 years I bet. The dealer told me if I replace it with a radio with the in dash CD player it will make the 12 disk changer in the trunk not function....anyone know if this is true?
I'd leave the tape adapter if you have the cds in the trunk. Now you can use an external device (XM, MP3, GPS, etc). I have a CD only and no changer and am struggling with an RF adapter or a multiple hundred dollar cable upgrade to rig a direct audio input.
Bought the car brand new off the showroom floor it has every option that a CE can have thats what confuses me.
When I ordered my 04 CE Vert with the 12 disc changer, I had the option of the in car radio having the tape player OR the single disc included. Thought about the tape but went for the CD so I didn't need to carry both tapes and CD's. It all depends on what the Dealer ordered and has nothing to do with having "all options".

Mine came with one CD in the head unit and 12 CD's in the trunk. In the future, steer clear of that idiot savant at the dealership who told you that!

Mine came with the single disc CD and the 12 disc changer in the hatch area. I sold the single disc, and put in the one you got...with the tape player. Believe me, metal tapes sound awesome in the C5, and I still can play cds from the rear. My wife's new minivan came with a tape player, as well as cd. Tapes are still popular contrary to what the media would like you to believe. A lot of the music I like is not available digitally, so tapes work out just fine. If you get digital music on your cable subscription, the only easy way to record it is to run the lineouts to a tape player. Try that with a computer...it is a nightmare to record digitally in real time! Microsoft and the record industry made it nearly impossible!
