Default 98 side mirror question

What do I need to replace.....my side mirror that "folds" if impacted is now just swiveling around. There is no resistance and moves 180 degress.......where is the problem?

There is a spring clip inside that has come loose. Its a biatch to fix but it can be done with some patience or more cash.

Do a search on side mirror and you'll find the procedure for removing and fixing it.

Dealer will charge around 300.00 to fix, or buy a used one, have it painted and then put it on or a very cheap fix: get some gasket seal and super glue and a little patience and no more droopy mirror - fixed mine this way.

Have the popped spring issue on the passanger side. Read the 97 part instructions on how to "FIX" it. Used Marine GOOP. No longer swivels but WHO CARES. Try it. You MIGHT like it. BIGHANK

I had the mirror off the door inside of 20 minutes, put the spring clip back on and put it back on the car inside of another hour. The only hard part was getting the three nuts back on that holds the mirror to the door. The right tool makes the job a lot easier. Oh yea, I had to go buy a #10 tork tool too. Give it a try and PM me if I can help you out.

Somebody in my family mysteriously bumped my drivers side mirror in the garage,(they wont fess up to it), but it was just hanging there one day, my solution was to use the red 3M double sided tape to secure it back and it has held flawlessly for over a year now, I cant swivel it anymore, but I saved the dough for replacing it cant tell the diffeerence, and in the vegas heat, it hasnt even budged as of yet.

Cheap 5 buk fix

I thought the same thing that someone must have bumped my mirror, but after reading several forum posts about this, I found that these mirrors will pop the retaining washers off all by themselves. So in your case, nobody fessed up because nobody did it. It is not a big deal to fix it and everything is still there, you just need to re-assemble it.

Thats what happened to mine on the passenger side. Gene Culley sold me a new one at a great price.
