Default Header Advice

Right now Im debating on Long-tubes w/ HFC's or Shorty w/ HFC's.

The Question is whats the best setup? I know long-tubes are thought very highly of, however, if you get them w/ the HFC's wouldnt they be the same as getting shorties w/ HFC's? What Im trying to do is keep my car under warranty. Thats why I want shorties ( Callaway ) then there would be no problems. But, I also want power. So here are the options... what are the differences in gains from...

A)Callaway Shorties, and Random tech. HFC's

B)Kooks Long-tubes w/ HFC's

Also whats the increase in noise??? I have B&B Bullets right now and I dont want the car much if any louder.

I increased my Z06 hp by about 30 horse changing from shorties and a stock H pipe to a full Dynamax system and HF cats. I''m sure about 10 of those horse were getting rid of the stock cats, but the other 20 was the long tubes. AND, your car will get considerably louder.

The B&B and BBK shorties (probably CALLAWAY and others) are 50 state emissions approved (CARB), if that's a consideration where you live. From what I've researched, the shorty headers will yield about 10hp and are obviously easy to install, bolting up to oem exhaust head pipes.

I doubt you will even see 10 hp difference with the short tubes. The long tubes are the way to go if you want performance.

On my 97 I went from completely stock to B&B shorties and Z06 Ti catback, then to Kooks LT's, high flow cats 3" Xpipe to the Ti catback (in that order) and I did get 12HP from the B&B shorties. The Kooks gave me almost a total of 30HP after tune etc...

if you are trying to stay smog legal then you are pretty much stuck with shorties (they were not as bad as people claim, mostly the people who say DON'T DO IT have never had them to know and are going on speculation)

If you can go long tubes, then you are far better off with the gains to be had from them...

The sound from the shorties and the Ti exhaust was nice at idle and would give a pretty open sound under full throttle...

the LT's and the Ti catback was awesome sounding and much to my surprise hardly any drone at highway speed...

long tubes, no questions asked. yes, it will be louder. If that's a problem, swap a stock Ti system back on.

It's only worth shortys in Kalifornia

Not even out here in CA, you can pass numbers-wise with LTs

IMO, shorties are a waste of money

If you go with the longtubes and cats it will still be a little louder. I love my GHL bullets but after installing the LG Pro lt no cats it draws quite a bit of attention. Sounds good not to loud idling around but anything over 2500 rpm it starts getting loud WOT is really loud. I have some friends with longtubes and cats and theirs are alot quiter than mine.
