Greetings forum,
On the way home from work last night my 97 C-5 water temp shot up to 250 degrees. I checked for radiator obstruction, antifreez level, etc. Antifreeze level was a little low so I topped it off. Went to work this am and it hit 250 again. Does this sound like a thermostat that just decided to quit opening? Hoses and cap appear to be fine. Thanks in advance for any help.

do it sound like yer coolin fans is commin on when she git ta bout 230?
might check under hood fuse an relay box. a 97 ye might have a relay stuck, an tha coolin fan circuit go thu bout three relays afore it git ta ground.
Try turning on the air......that will cause the fans to kick on. If that lowers the temp, time to change & flush the system. I don't know why but some cars need flushed a lot sooner than others. Just a guess....
bump,
The antifreeze is about 2 yrs old, no cracks in resevior, no leaks, heater on for 10 minutes doesn't help. Fans coming on at about 220.....
Tks again in advance
I had this happen once, I turned on the HEATER to 90, yes it got hot in the car, but it did lower the temp real fast as the coolant travels throught the heater, after a few mins I turned off the heater and things were fine, a trick I learned from my Dad a long time ago

I had the heater on for 10 minutes this morning. Didn't make a difference. Still thinking a non opening thermostat.
