I've seen this on the forum before...I have a 2001 coupe and the turn signal will all of a sudden quit working. If I mess around with the hazard light switch, it'll make the turn signal work again. The Chevy garage said the turn signal relays through the hazard switch and that the hazard switch is bad and needs replaced. Has anyone had this done? If so, what kind of cost am I looking at?...and....Do you think I could do it myself?
Thanks.
Update: I just replaced the switch yesterday 8/26/07 with the instructions provided in this thread. It went like clockwork. You guys are awesome! Thanks!

Reason: Update
Part # 10359036. Gmpartsdirect.com. $31.52. Just bought one this morning. Doesn't look to difficult to replace. You have to remove the console and radio bezel and the radio to get to the switch.

Great write up Richard, I just did mine last night, I had a hard time pulling it through the radio like you did, I actually reached up on the left hand side of the radio, that worked real easy. Now tonight I will solder the climate control and replaces my gear selector light and then put her back together.
Well, I just replaced mine today. Everything went like clockwork getting the swich out. Very easy stuff!
What I DID NOT Enjoy was getting the new one back in. That was a PIA! I guess one must have to have the skinny and long fingers of a circus side show freak to get it lined up and back in properly.
I finally tied some dental floss to the front of the switch and routed that through the hole so AT LEAST the damn thing would not keep falling back off to the side. Kept a slight amount of pressure on it and finally worked it into place. Between some long screwdrivers and what now looks to be a butchered right hand from the sharp edges on the radio rack, it is in. Once it lines up properly it does in fact go in quite easy.
I can not think of any special tool one could use to aid in getting it lined up to re-install. Sure hope this is a one-time excercise.
I was using words I dont even think exist at one point in the process.
I had my Sirius Radio tuner tied to the side and it made the area of extraction minimal at best! ...so getting it out was the difficult part...
...or perhaps getting it back in seemed like a cake walk compared to removing the switch...
Been reading a lot about this switch on various threads. Have to throw out something I found through "experiments". My turn signals quit working anytime the outside air temp is above 70 or so. I found that by having the air conditioning on with the vent closed in the center dash, the switch stays "cool" and my signals function as required hour after hour on the road On cool days, I route the heat to the floor, and they still work. If I route the heat through the dash it's good bye signals. My .02 on the subject. Jack

Decided I would try the electronic spray contact cleaner on the haz switch before replacing the switch. Worked like a charm so far. It' been a couple of days and the turn signals and the haz switch have worked problem free.

How did you get at anything electrical to spray it?

RonJ ... :bi gears
I took the switch cover off (thin screwdriver down the side and it eased right off to expose the actual switch) used the electronics spray (be sure to use plastic safe spray) with the straw attached to the nozzle so it would spray a stream. I coated the end of the switch that moves on all four sides and worked the switch in and out a couple of dozen times applying more spray while I worked it. I was set to replace the entire switch any way so I felt I couldn't hurt the switch any worse than it was. And like I said it's been a couple of days now and is working fine Blinkers and Hazards. Both were pretty erratic before only working not only about half the time but most of the time they would come on then stop mid stream. I had to be extra cautious in my turn because I always felt the person behind me may have thought I changed my mind about the turn and would run up on me.

This may not cure all but may cure some.
