I know, I know, its a pretty big sign that the brakes need replacing. However, I had the car inspected yesterday, and they said I have PLENTY of brake left. What could be the problem? They squeak pretty bad.
If the pads are worn it is probably the wear indicator tabs (squeaks no matter how hard you push the pedal). That means new brakes. If the squeaking stops if you push down hard on the pedal, it is most likely is the pad's backing plates vibrating (squeaking) in the caliper. Take the calipers off and put small amount of anti-seize grease on all of the metal to metal contact points on the metal pad backing plates and caliper. If the pads look shiny. Lightly roughen up the pad surface with a 600 grit sandpaper pad and a rotory sander. This should stop the noise.

+1
And also on the ends of the pads where they rest in the mounting brackets.
I've never had a brake job come back due to squeak doing this.

Where can I find this anti-seize grease? this sounds like exactly my case, cuz during hard braking, squeaks stop.
I have exactly the same problem, it's been like it ever since I bought it but didn't want to be without my Vette (as it was new to me) so have just lived with it ever since. My squeak stops when I press hard so know that the pads don't need replacing.
Thanks for the advice on the anti-seize grease, I'll give it a try!
