Ok guys, help me decide between one of these shifters. It will be going in my 03 z06. Would you pick a B&M ripper shifter OR an 07 c6 z06 shifter?? Help me out guys, i need to decide tonight, thanks!!!
Lot of guys put in the C6 Z06 shifter cause they like the ****, and this is easier than drilling the shifter arm of whatever shifter they have. There is a reason why stock C5 shifters are replaced. They feel ok when the car was new, but as the miles pass by, it feels like rubber! The throws are always longer than an aftermarket unit, and not as precise.
This will be the same with the C6 ZO6. I have a Hurst, with the C6 ****, and the arm drilled for the Torx screw. I luv it!
I have installed the '07 C6 Z06 shifter into both my wife's and my C5s.
She really likes the better angle and shorter throws, and I agree but with my Z06 I have done the AntiVenom mod (3/16 thk washer).
So our votes are for the C6 shifter.
Simple advice. Drive Z06s equipped with each of the shifters you're considering. Local owners will be happy to help.
Auditioning may quickly eliminate some of them for characteristics you may find objectionable.
Keep in mind too that your shifting speed will not improve with an aftermarket shifter. That's because the limiting factor in a shift is the speed of the leg (clutch action), rather than speed of the hand.
I auditioned all the aftermarket shifters driving club-members' cars. Elected to stay stock. How to Improve Your Shifting
Just my 2 cents, I had the B&M ripper. Worked great, the only problem
the springs are really stiff. I switched it out for the Hurst that has
a choice of springs and like it much better.
Thanks guys! I think i am gonna go with the b&m shifter. I checked out a guys c5 last night that had one and it felt pretty good. Thanks for all your input.
I installed the Hurst Shifter over 2 years ago and I love it. I track the car and it has really been a great performer. It did take some time to finally quiet down; with headers I could not hear it anyway!
I have had both the ripper and C6Z06 shifters. I liked how short the throw was with the B&M and I kinda liked how notchy it was. I now have the C6Z shifter and it is nice and smooth but has a slightly longer throw. I do like the **** a lot better on the C6Z shifter though! I had the MGW gripper pistol and round ***** on the B&M and still prefer the C6Z ****. So I guess what I am trying to say is you cant really go wrong either way.
