I hate to hear and see the damage. Good luck on getting a new rim. Never now what stuff it could have torn up under the front.

It's a natural reaction to avoid anything that jumps in front of you, I know from past experience. I've had the same things happen to me....If you hit it the damage would have more than likely been worse. Plastic, speed, and dogs don't make for a happy ending on either end...

Sorry about the damage - hard to not react the way you did. Good luck finding a new wheel.

You did the right thing.

Karma will repay you somehow. If I had a wheel, I would give it to you.

Don't get me wrong...I am an animal lover at heart, but a police code came to mind when I read your post.................

10-45

(which means "animal carcass on the roadway").

10-18 on your plate! That's funny. As a cop in California, my plate read "I B 417" (man with a gun).

It is natural to react and try to avoid things in the roadway but yes, if you had time to think abiout it and could have decided to hit the dog and save your wheel, you would have felt much worse if that was a kids pet... Never mind the additional damage to your undercarriage. As has been said... It'd be nice if someone will give you a wheel if they have an extra... I would!! You tried to do right... Thanks for that!!

Sorry to hear about the damage to the wheel, but I bet the animal is glad you swerved.

Hmmmmm, now that I think of it, wonder what Michael Vick would have done?

Forward this thread to PETA and tell them to send you a new wheel. It would be a more than a fair trade. An animals life for a chunk of aluminum.

On the upside...(if that's possible)...if it was a medium size dog, you may have had more damage to the front clip than the wheel. I've seen some pretty pricey front damage just hitting something as small as a rabbit. I hit a piece of tire (road gator) that was about 2" wide by 12-14" long and destroyed the whole inner rear fender last week, and that was about $300, with no exterior damage.
