This is without a doubt THE BEST resource for your new Vette 
I had a 97 also and had the same Fuel Sender unit problem. From what I hear, reading other posts, start using Chevron fuel, it has Techron in it which should clean up your sender. If there aren't any Chevron stations near you, you can buy Techron at any auto store so just throw a bottle in whenever you fill her up. That is one expensive fix at the stealership!!! Good luck!
