Yesterday had a discusion with a friend that told me that the Colum Lock may activate during a normal driving...
I didnt saw any post or know of any Vette owner who had that problem.
All the comment started because I told him that I still dont want to buy the CLB because my 98 Coupe Red Vette has on it only 4.5Kmiles and never knew of any owner that had the CL Problem with less than 25K miles and that example was because a low voltage issue.
But he said that a friend´s brother had that situation, while was driving, the CL locked the steering wheel without turn off the car (That I think is better not to turn off the car because ABS and brake system),well, the thing is that C5 is a 99 model.
Like I said, my car has very low miles, has a new 1000amp battery and the CL works perfect, I dont know if could fail tomorrow or in 10 years but if there´s a low possiblity that while driving the car, without any notice the steering wheel may lock I´ll buy inmediately the CLB.
But is there any Vette Owner that had this kind of problem?
Do a search of this Forum, about 4-5 years ago there were at least two "CONFIRMED" CL while the Vette was being driven.
The word 'confirmed' is used loosely - the individuals that were 'so affected' by this we never able to prove the Vette was actually in gear, under power, etc.
If they had - be assured there would have been major law suits filed, and probably won - however no such thing occurred.
Now - back to you. WTF haven't you:
1) Purchased, and installed the CLB?
2) Why are you wasting valuable BW on this matter when it has been hashed, and rehashed a million times?
3) Get another friend - obviously he is another 'know it all'.

First of all, my born language is Spanish so maybe dont understan all the english slang
On the other way..
1.- I tough until yesterday that it was 100% impossible that my car will have this issue at least soon
2.- I dont understang as I wanted this (What mean BW )
3.-
Do a quick search on CF for CBL and EBCM; you will learn a lot.
Also read up on NHTSA web site:
nhtsa.dot.gov
1. select safety problems & issues.
2. select a search engine from the list
i.e. consumer complaints.
3. select vehicle search
4. check full summary & retrieve complaints......
then click document search, read the last one -
GM notice to dealers. Q & A
This website can also be used to file complaints.
That's how safety recalls get issued.

It's really simple....you have a few options...some good some bad:
1. Take it to the dealer and get the recall done. Free and effective.
2. Install a CLB. Out of your pocket but not real hard to do.
3. Do nothing and MAYBE nothing will ever happen.
4. Get in your car after a nice meal and ready for a cruise and there you sit with the column locked or worse have a medical emergency and not be able to drive you car.

I too have heard of a few cases where it was reported that the column locked up when the vehicle was in motion. I firmly believe you are taking a chance by not getting the $50 CLB and installing it. The miles have nothing to do with when it could lock up on you - my '99 did it several times with much less than 25K miles on the car. Why take a chance on having it happen and probably at the worst possible time?

I agree, I just wanted to have 100% stock the car, be secure when let the car in any parking lot or something and know that the steering wheel is locked... I know that is´nt so important compare with being looked up at 100mph.
Roger, the CLB is removed just as easily as it is installed. All you really do is unplug the wire to the actuator, and install a device that 'fools' the BCM into thinking the start up routine for the CL has been completed. The CL is no longer powered so it cannot strand you on the beach 40 miles from nowhere (it happened to me). Buy a CLB, install it, then forget about it.
Be aware that CLB kits will not work on some 98 models. I know, I own a 98 coupe and the kit did not work on mine. Take your car to the dealer and have them do the factory recall, which should include the K harness and relay. When you get it back, make sure you can turn the wheel with the key off or tell the dealer to do it again and do it right this time. Since I did mine done, I have not had any further problems. Good luck...
