Somebody from Tx posted here a week or two ago a pic where they had bent the front tag and mounted it down at the front air dam up under the front bumper. The law just says it has to be visible from the front, not specifically in a certain spot. Here is that thread. Looked like a pretty good idea if you have to have a front tag. Thank God Florida doesn't require that! http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...as+front+plate
You can also get a ticket in Texas for not displaying the whole plate. Some people have had to remove license plate frames if they obscure too much of the plate. I think the law was originally intended to keep people from covering their plates so that automatic traffic cameras could not read them, but it depends on the interpretation of the officer.
I have never had a problem in Texas.
The beauty that my Vette is, simply blows them away as they sit there eating their donuts wishing they had my car.
But don’t let them stop you for speeding, they will include the missing tag citation as a pay back!!
I run a front plate on the vette, but not on my beater.
I don't want to give them a free invitation to pull me over any time they get the itch.
In my beater, I have the front plate hiding under the passenger floormat. I can pull it out and put it on the dash in a couple of seconds if needed. 2 years, and I haven't gotten any crap about it.

We did a club cruise to the Hard 8 BBQ joint in Stephenville. It's located right next door to the DPS office and as it was Saturday and the DPS was deserted we asked the Trooper on duty if we could park about 15 cars in their lot.
"Sure" he says,"It'll make it look better."
I had to go back to my car for my phone and saw him walking around looking over the cars so I asked him if everything was OK.
He said, "It's amazing. a million dollars worth of cars and nobody can afford a front plate..."

Displaying your front plate on your dash is not legal. It must be affixed to the front of the vehicle to be legally displayed. You might as well leave it under the floormat.

I got stopped, had the plate in the car, and very quickly stuck it on the dash. Did not get a ticket for no front plate, but did get a warning for having an obscured front plate.
Just got my C5 last week. Whenever the plates come in, I'm going to run with the front plate in it's correct location. Having been riding motorcycles the past 17+ years round the Austin area, etc.. I find the local cops are a pretty cool bunch and pretty reasonable but I"m going to run with it on anyway.
I live in Carrollton and drive through Addison, Farmers Branch and Dallas just about every day. So far I haven't had a problem. After reading this thread though, I think I'll start carrying it in the car and use the car show line if I ever get pulled over.

The F.B. and Addison boys won't bother you unless you speed. Watch out for them on motorcycles with radar guns. As has been posted, it's the State Hwy Patrol guys that'll stop you.
