Default Passive mode

Does anyone not use it, if so why? Why did they discontinue it in 01? I need a new Fob (The one I have now makes a rattling sound) Do they still make the FOBS with the passive switch?

Thats the one where it automatically unlocks/locks within distance right? (its been a while since i tried it)
And no, I dont, mainly cause I dont really trust it.
I think only the early C5s had it too up too 99? I may be wrong there though.

yeah it locks and unlocks on it's own, and I never had an issue with it at all, but I always walked away slow so I could hear it beep.

Yeah, I tried it a few times too....I just felt more comfortable doing it myself?!
And when i had it in the garage at home it would lock or unlock all the time and i have the alarm set to lights and honk so it would honk every now and then too.

I would come in handy though when Im coming out of safeway with both hands full of groceries!!

When I first but the car the remote did not work i wanted that passive function so bad, it look cool. After getting new remote I had it on for one day LOL. Don’t trust it and when you stand next to the car it will lock and unlock the car by it self all he time annoying. And the remote has to move to work if its still in your pocket and you walk slowly the door will not open

I don't use it. I don't trust it and it is a pain when walking around car with remote.

BTW, the rattling is normal. It is the "motion switch" that sends signal.

They discontinued it in '00. Seems like a lot of people had problems with the fob locking/unlocking the car when they didn't want it to. I had the problem on my '99 and quickly switched the passive mode off.

Same reason why I turned mine ('98) off.

Here's a story I'll share. If I'm standing a few feet away from my car and a pretty girl walks by I reach into my pocket and hit the Alert/horn button. The girl is startled. I look at her and say, "It must like you." And in a more daring mood, "Care to go for a ride...?"
