I drive mine at least 120 miles a day. 90-100 (downhill one way and uphill the other way) miles on the hwy and 20-30 on surface streets. It is hard to average 23mpg. I generally drive to work and back 3 times before the low fuel light comes on. I drive more in a month than a lot of Vette owners do in a year. The only way that anybody is going to get 28 mpg is if you are going on a long, flat, trafficless cruise where you maintain 70-80. Don't believe the hype. For everyday real world driving I would expect 22-24 mpg. 380-420 is on the high side for a tank for normal driving.
I average just a hair over 22 mpg. Thats a combination of 35 miles of highway stop and go and 10 miles of 45 mph traffic lights. I can go 350-400 with out to much problem. Thats about 90 miles a day I can make 4 days safely on a tank.
I've got a 98 I hit 465 the day I brought it home, still over 1/8th left... 32mpg (best I've gotten) Cruise on 60 for most of the way, then 75 when i left Iowa (thank God) and hit SD. I've not seen any vettes get as good as mine.. my Dad's 00 gets 28-29 in the same situation.

If I read right...in the original post the question regarded cruising HWY mileage. Figuring 75 mph...with the 18 gallons I filled in my 98 A4 vert with 3.15 gearing...top down I averaged approximately 25.5 mpg. My simple math leads me to the conclusion that approximately 450 miles would be AND was my cruising range. I would not claim the figure of 25 mpg to calculate my OVERALL mpg average. My very unscientific study on this matter has revealed that if I cruise above 90 or drive around town...my mileage spirals downward in a proportional manner to the direct relation of the weight and application of my big lead foot!
