Had AR Headers installed at Carlisle now I can't keep engine bay clean take it out for a short
ride engine is covered in dust I do have a hood seal on the car never had this problem
before install, anyone ever have this trouble?
Thanks
i installed mine and honestly cant think of anything that could cause excess dust or dirt(besides the first couple miles after installation when its burning off any impurities)... all i could suggest is drive it for a while, then clean it up.. should go away... but then again i could be wrong
No it's not all in my head I had the car from new I cleaned it twice after headers install every time I come back from a run it's dirty again, I think I need to get it on a lift with it running to check for leaks. I do live on a dirt road to my house but only drive 4 MPH until I get on the highway.
Sounds like you need to water down your dusty dirt road... Been a while since it's rained?
Never had that much dust on engine, on out side of car yes never under the hood, we had rain just few nights ago I'm thinking if I have a leak it's blowing dust from the road up on to engine. Did notice that the radiator fan seems to run a lot more now then it did before the install.

Hmmm they say headers increase the underhood temps... maybe you've figured it out with the increased fan operation and dust being blown about!!
I just know when I drive on gravel, (NOT in my Vette!!) I get dust everywhere!! in my door sills, under the hood, everywhere... but I don't drive 4 mph to keep it under control...

I think I figured it out fan does run more then it did before, temp is not over 196 fan is running came home this afternoon pulled onto road to home dust started to fly ever where you could see the dust coming out from the wheel wells. Pulled into garage lifted up hood every thing covered in light dust. I don't know if when I had it tuned Carmen set fan to come on at a lower temp. but fan does seems to be running all the time will try to call him on Tuesday.

I bet the price of a cold beer that when they shut off the rear 02 sensors they also changed a few other things like your fan settings.
Had my LG's done at Carlisle last year and they did a bunch of other things in the tune one of which was the fan settings leaving me the same problem with dirt you are having.
Yesterday Slowhawk tuned my car for the new cam and fixed all of that.
When talking to Carmen try to find out what else was done for your own info. You may or may not like some of these things, ie mine had way too much timing for a stock motor.
Good Luck
The fan speeds are controlled by the A/C as well as the engine temp.
I learned soon after buying my '96 several years ago that if I turned off my A/C just prior to pulling onto gravel or dirt that my engine would stay cleaner longer.
The fan comes on regardless of engine temp every time you turn on the A/C. The fans normally do not come on until about 220 degrees if you do not have your A/C running.
Since our cars are bottom feeders they suck up that dust just like a vacuum cleaner and blow it all over the engine.
