List of stuff:
1.Corvette jpg. on transparency paper(printed mine on my inkjetprinter) I'll update this later with the jpeg, don't have it at work)
2."Closed cell" foam sheet.http://www.yourautotrim.com/sculptingfoam.html
3. Cloth or Vinyl head liner material. http://www.yourautotrim.com/auheclvifa.html
4.Spray adhesive. http://www.yourautotrim.com/instabond.html
5. Thin board or extra vinyl piece for base.
6.Rubber roller or something to press out the shape you want.(nothing sharpe)
7.Heat gun or hair dryer(assists with cure time in the tight corners)
I took a corvette emblem jpg.(thanks to a corvetteforum member-??), printed it on transparency paper, and projected it on the wall in the garage using an overhead projector. I adjusted the distance of the projector from the wall to get the right size. Then, I tacked the closed cell foam sheet to the wall and traced the image with a sharpy.
Then cut out the shape you traced and make sure to only remove the pieces you don't want. After cutting, you should be left with the shape you want to stick out. Now, you need to make the base for the headlineer:either use a thin board or a piece of vinyl. I used the old head liner to trace out the shape of the base. The first one I made, I used a thin board for the base and vinyl for the shape.(You'll have to have some heavy duty double sided tape to stick it to you roof.) Later I made one using the vinyl as the base and the head liner material to hold my shape.(seemed to be lighter)
Find the right location and glue the emblem/shape where you want it on the base.*Be sure not to put it upside down*
Now spray the base and emblem with the adhesive and roll the vinyl or head liner material over it. Start pressing the vinyl/head liner material down around the emblem/shape. Some spots may require more force/time to cure. After it cures, spray the back all the way around the edges and rap the material over the edges for a clean look.
This was my first one (I used to much glue) and it didn't look as smoothas later ones.
After letting it cure, you can double side tape it to the roof panel. here are some pics of the first one I did using vinyl.
Here are a couple of pics of one I did using the vinyl for the base and head liner material for the covering. They look a little blue in the pic becuase OF the flash, but they are black.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll try to help as much as I can.
