Has anyone had their tender go out? I notice that my light always stays red and never goes green. Now my battery is dead of course. Is this the battery or the tender? The tender is about 5 years old. Thanks!
I've had three different BATTERY TENDER PLUS flat maintenance chargers and never had one go bad (not to say it's impossible). I've heard of only a couple people say theirs was defective.
DELTRAN CORPORATION is the manufacturer of BATTERY TENDER model chargers. They have a good customer service reputation and a good warranty. You can check out their website and see if yours might fall under the warranty. You might be able to send it in to them for repair. Their warranty runs 5 to 10 years depending on the model.
As mentioned, you battery was probably going bad and the float maintenance charger was showing the proper red indicator for a bad battery.
Their website is batterytender.com

Take the battery into your favorite auto supply vendor and have them load test it. Depending on the manufacturer, you might get a prorated refund on the battery for the unused portion of the warranty, applied towards another battery.
yep, you guys are absolutely right. Just got back from having it tested. Should I put the tender back on or not? It probably isn't helping anything anyway, right? I can fortunately still get the car to start (for today anyway). It's a Delco battery so I guess I go to the dealer tomorrow?
I recommend that you get an Exide Orbital battery. I got mine at Sam's for $99. It is like the Red Tops in design but has a better warranty, 9 years. I think it is total free replacement during first two or three of those years and then pro-rated after that.
Do not put a conventional battery in there as your battery sits just above your cars computer and many batteries have leaked in the past damaging the car's computer to the tune of over $5000 in dealer repairs.
Your tender was on red all the time because it was always charging a battery that would not fully charge because it was no good. The tender should be fine and you will see the green light on after a shorter time frame with the new battery.
I have two Battery Tenders. The one on the Harley is over ten years old. Still working fine. The newer Battery Tender Plus I bought about 4 months ago for the 'Vette. It's a little more advanced. Has a "blinking red" feature when the battery is 85% charged. Couldn't live without 'em!
