Ebay HID Colors
Awhile back, I put PIAA Halogen bulbs in my stock lights. The bulbs are called Extreme White Plus, are rated at 4000k, and although the glass on the bulb has a slightly blue tint, they actually shine a crisp clean white, and are MUCH whiter than the stock bulbs, with no sign of blue at all.
I am quite familiar with Kelvin temps as I have 6 aquariums with custom lighting, but am in a bit of a quandry here. I don't want blue, but I definitely don't want to go backwards toward the stock puke yellow.
The Ebay HIDs are listed interchangably as either 4300k or 4700k and are called Xtreme White. Their pics of lighting colors indicate to me that the 4300/4700k bulbs look just as white as my PIAA bulbs, as they should if they are indeed in the same range as my 4000k PIAAs.
Being that the Ebay seller is a Chinese guy (I can tell by this writing), I'm not so sure all the information is exactly correct, based upon his command of the English language. For example, he states that the 4300/4700k bulb puts out 3100 lumens, while the 6000k bulb puts out 2900, which is probably correct, because a higher Kelvin rating emits bluer light, and the lumens would indeed be a bit subdued simply because of the blue color.
However, the seller then recommends 6000k because it is the brightest. Quite a contradiction in terms, wouldn't you say?
Now, I notice in the pics that the 6000k color on the Ebay HIDs indeed looks blue, as you would expect in that Kelvin temperature range. If I go purely on the Kelvin temp numbers provided in the description of the Ebay HIDs, the Ebay HIDs in 4300/4700k should actually be a tiny bit bluer (probably not even noticable) than the 4000k PIAAs that I have now. So, I'm asking for opinions:
To those that have gone with 6000k, is the color of the light emitted blue at all?
To those that have gone 4300k or 4700k, is the color of the light emitted white?
In fact, would you say that the color of the pics of the lights presented in the seller's information is pretty accurate to what you got?
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this subject. (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)
5-6000k range emit bluish tint and don't put out as much, but they are by far the best choice to be made.
Anything above 6000k is definately way too much blue...enough so, IMO that could attract the guys with the flashing bright reds and blues to maybe want to have a chat with you.
Once in you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner. Best upgrade on the crap C5 lights you can find for the money.

I have the 6,000K 'diamond white' as they were described, they are a little blue but the light they put out is extremely white. If you go much above 6,000K the color definitely increases as the light decreases; kinda defeats the purpose in my opinion.
