i just installed the B&M Precision Shifter (#45044) in my 02' z today. I noticed that after installing the shifter and snugging everything down, once you put it in gear it almost has a little more flex to it. By this i mean, the black shaft on the shifter handle continues to move forward while already in gear (almost as if it has a little bit of play). Maybe it was designed this way so u wouldn't snap the shifter handle on a hard shift who knows? Anyone else noticed this or know the reason behind this?
i don't think the B&M models have that. its not the shifter it is the black tube around the handle. once in gear it has a bit of forward and backward motion once in gear.
It sounds like the shifter handle may actually be loose. I noticed some of the aftermarket shifters have a 2 piece shifter handle. Lift up the boot & take a peek.....
here is what it looks like. the black tube that slides over the silver handle is what moves to the front & back. it's hard to explain what exactly im talking about unless u can see it in person. the black tube has a little rod with rubber gaskets on it so u can take them out and rotate the handle 180* so it will work with the c6 or c5 vette. im thinking the extra play is form the rubber o-rings, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this as well.
Yes, that top black part of the handle is what I was making reference to. Even though it's 2 pieces, I don't think there should any play in it, but, someone out there must have one like yours to make a comparo.....
