Default Riddle me this..

So I have my eye on an 03 vert with some high miles (about 105K)
cause it's cheap.

Couple o' questions.

1- What are the most likely major things I'll have for it over the next 3 years and 60K miles??? How much?

2- Is it worth just spending an extra 8K now and getting an older model (probably an '01 or '02) with less miles to avoid stuff mentioned above?

3 - Does doing heads/cam do anything for an engines life???

Depends on what maintenance has been done;
Here are some rough estimates based on what can and commonly does go wrong and what should be done as regular maintenance (parts only, no labor).

Spark Plugs $20-$60
Plug Wires $60
Brakes (rotors/pads); $400
Tires; A lot of $
Steering Column Lock bypass $50
Fluids; $100
ECBM rebuild; $200
Tire Pressure Sensors $80 each (4 total)
Oil Pressure Sensor; $30

May also want to consider clutch replacement...

I'm certain that others will want to chime in. I just bought my '99 FRC with 111K miles on it a couple weeks ago. The price was right, and some of those problems can occur at any mileage. If you're saving enough, and getting a newer model year, go for it...Don't let the mileage scare you. The 'vette still has a lot of miles left on it...

Michlien ZP's would be about $1000 for 4
And the TP Sensors on the 03 he is talking about are cheaper ($30 each maybe, not sure, but they shouldnt need to be replaced on an 03 yet, no? I have 50k on my 01 nad they are fine, maybe with 100+k they go fater?).

Just take that extra cash your saving, and build a nice N/A or blower motor, throw in a clutch and DTE brace with gears, and enjoy it! If the car still looks new, make the drive train the same

I paid 15k for my car, 00 with 125k on the odo. Plans were to buy the car, and start pulling together the money for a nice newer motor, and to mod the hell out of it and hopefully pull out with a nice street/show car. I dont want to ruin a low mileage car and feel bad when I take it to vette shows
Have fun bud I did all my maintenance for under 600 bucks, including tires (thanks ebay!) Just be patient with it, these cars go on for 200k+ anyhow or so I hear...

Ok, Interesting. Say I purchase that high milage '03 and put in heads,Cam, and a new 3.90 rear with a new clutch.

Have I replaced most of the big wear items from the engine and trans?
Will this get me another 100K miles?

you can expect to replace the water pump, thermostat, perhaps a harmonic balancer, hub bearings, tie rod ends, diff. seals, seat covers, rocking chair repair if it hasn't been done already. clutch if it's a manual, coolant tank, radiator, alternator, a/c compressor, normal mantainance stuff. rotors, head light motors,

my a4 trans went out @203,000, motor, diff. still fine
