Default Wanting a C5 but cant get one :(

I have been really really trying the last 2-3 months to get one and i just dont think its gonna, happen, problem im having is getting one financed, im only 18 and am trying to build up credit but its taking forever, everytime i talk about getting a car they tell me i need a cosigner, and i dont have one, what can i do, and unless some complete stranger cosigns for me, im screwed i think for a few years...what does a hardworking 18 year old do that cant get lucky as far as this goes?

I would save money and shop around for financing. I think that someone would finance you without a co-signer if your down payment were big enough.

Honest Advice (and probably what you don't want to hear):

Spend your money towards an education. Cars are the worst investment for an 18 year old. Cars are bad investments period (unless you are buying rare classics).

With an education, you'll get a better job and you can buy your toys in your mid 20s. Be patient, and live vicariously through your friends' poor spending.

My own kid...nearly 19 want's another fast car and has a job and is going to school as well. Told him I would NOT co-sign for him and to get real. The last thing he needs now is a $300+ a month headache for 3+ years.

There are far to many changes and uncertainties in a young persons life to make a huge committment to a long term car payment. There is always something else worth more -- like a house, or apartment, a fine woman, school,.......things that mean a lot more than instant gratification for a car. Lousy investments.

Let your life evolve some more before taking on a loosing investment. Be happy for what you have, not miserable for what you wish you had.

Good Luck --->

Have you even thought of how much insurance is going to run you for a Vette at 18 years of age?

Sorry I agree with the others, now is not the right time for you to get a Vette. Get a good reliable daily driver, make a small loan just so you can pay it off on time and build your credit history.

Even if you did save the money. Would you have extra money to hang out with friends and such? Have you checked insurance for you? I agree with the others. Just hold off for a while. I just got my first one at 26 years old. You are welcomed in the community here even if you don't have one.
Best of luck.

I'm 21 and own my vette, if u want a vette go for it bro. If you can prove that you can hold down a job and make payments on time, you can get a loan.

Im 17 and have a vette, i put 10,000 down that i saved up, payments are respectable, but insurance is extremly high, not to mention my winter ride is nothing to look at. If you want a vette and payments of a vette, go for it, but if you do not want to spend most of your time working and neglecting your girlfriend then you should probably take the advice of the more experienced members above. Good Luck

build up your credit by buying something smaller, such as a stereo or furniture. make your payments on time. It will take some time, but it will prove you can keep a job and pay for your responsibilities.
But the best advice you got was the one you prob didn't want to hear, forget in the vette for now and invest in your education.

So already got a girl, got a house, im pretty secure with the job, and and the only other bill i have is when if ever i use my credit car i just got and phone, my mom is going to get the car and she is the one that needs a cosigner, because in my name the insurance would be more than the car payments...

^^

You are having a problem just coming up with the $$ to buy a vette. Where are you going to get the $$ to pay for repairs, maintenance, insurance, and other costs? Vettes are very expensive to own and when something goes wrong expensive to fix.

18 yr old mind + VETTE = potential trouble

Good luck my man

Just out of curiosity, what is your job? BTW, the Army has a $20,000 sign up bonus.

I had a Vette at 18 (back in 1968, a 64 Vert), bought it myself. I did have some "close calls" but no accidents caused by me (one person ran into my rear at a stop sign). I then went to college, got a job, corvette was stolen (1972), had family, and thirty years later got my second Vette (a 1998 Coupe in 2002).

You can have a Vette at 18 years old.

Ok, well if you have a house, how did you not need a co-signer for the mortgage? Having a house in your name (assuming this is the case) should be instant credit.

I waited til I was 24 to buy mine. I put a lot down on it and the payments for me are very manageable. All I had to do was give up drinking too much beer, which is really a healthy move anyway.

Yea, this is a good route too if college isn't your thing right now. Military is good for anyone I think.

Default Important Info

I will explain to you how to build up your credit. This is to give you some knowledge, not to buy a vette. (what you do is on you)

First go to a bank with 1,000 & tell them you want to open an account & place a 1 year hold on your funds.
Then you tell them you want to borrow 1,000 using your account as collateral. They will only charge you 2 pts for this. (Before you deposit, be sure to tell him what you are tryin to do...build up credit)(pay off to end in 1 year)

You will walk in with 1,000 & walk out with 1,000. Next repeat at another bank.

You now have 2 banks, which you have to make roughly 188.00 monthly payments combined.

After 6 months apply for a credit card..if they want collateral, tell them you will deposit 500 in an account & to limit your card to 500 dollars.

Use the card for convience only not for advance on money.

If you can afford it go for 3 banks, but don't bite off more than you can chew.

In 1 year banks will release your funds & love your bussiness.
enjoy
