Default Help, my dad put the wrong gas

I lent my dad my z06 this morning for him to go to work, I told him not to put gas since I still had some. He stopped and put 20$ of regular 89 octane gas.

How bad is that for my engine and what can I do now?

Computer will make adjustment to octane and the car will not perform as well but it won't hurt the engine.

Keep in mind all the good things your dad does for you. It is a small thing that he did that will not end up hurting anything and you wasted precious time being upset with him. I wish my dad was still around to irritate me with some of the crazy things he used to do. Funny thing is my sons are feeling the same way about me that I used to feel about my own father. What goes around comes around.

The knock sensors will compensate for the gas. Drive it, refill and enjoy!

Your car will even run on 87 octane so don't worry! It may not be as fast but you probably won't even feel the difference.

$20 is not many gallons anymore. How much gas was in the tank?
If you top the tank off with the higher octane, the blend will be the average octane per gallon. If you put in 50% or more of 94 octane, you are still at 91 or 92 octane. No problem.

Just burn your current tank of gas down to the last drop, (but don't completely run out) and fill back up with premium.

And don't run it hard until you get the good stuff back in.

Has anybody here run a Z with 87 for long periods of time? I wonder if the circuits burn out prematurely if you drive on 87 for years?

I run the cheap gas in the Z all the time and still running strong like a champ. I have never seen or felt a differance so why waste the cash. I let my mom drive my 88 vette one time and she left the e brake on the whole time becuase she thought it was down even though you need to release it first. Now that is something to bitch about LOL even though I didnt because its my mom and she felt bad enough.

if you drove it hard, you would notice the diff in octane. The car would detonate and take timing away and it would lose some power. Around town and not driving hard, it would make no difference.

That's what you get for telling him to be home before midnight and not to bring the car back empty. Damn Dad's these days...

I agree, my boys (6' 3'' 19 years old, and a 23 years old) would never speak harch to me. 1st they know waking up on the floor would be their next experiance. 2nd they have to much respect for their old man. And they know not to let objects or women come before the family. My oldest boy drive 34 miles every weekend just to wash his moms car (wax if needed) and help in the yard. I've always told them the only women that will alway love they unconditionally is her. And never put a girl before each other.
And yes at my age of 44 when my mom calls I go to her. (My dad died 2 years ago)

You’ll be fine.
It appears you have a very classy dad, who not only cares a lot about you but also respects you as well.
Overlook his (minor) oversight, and (focus) on the significance of his intention.

agreed. Lighten up on dad. It was an honest mistake. He was only trying to help.
For what its worth, i have put 87 octane in my vette before because i spaced out and thought I was filling the Expedition. It won't hurt a thing.
