I recently bought my Z and have noticed my temp gauge stays around 190-200 degrees at 40mph and decreases somewhat with higher speed.
I usually take the wife out shopping with the Z and I sit in the car with the ac running waiting for her return. Not much on shopping and here in Charleston S.C. you can get killed in a parking lot.
After 20 minutes at idle the car has heated up to near 225 degrees without any warning alarms. At this point I shut it down to cool off , but I don't hear any fans running. Anyway, when I get going again on the road she finally cools down with the ac off after two or three miles.
So, at what temp can I expect to get an alarm ? I notice the gauge shows red at around 245- 250 degrees. What is normal temp range? Do I need to worry about these temps. Maybe I have a sticky thermostat? All fluids are normal. Thx for your help. Oh, the car is completely stock with 14k on the odometer.

Clean out the debris from the radiator fins. The air inlet acts like a vacuum an collects grass and leaves, ect. Take off the radiator shroud and clean all that out. I suspect most of us have a debris screen that covers the radiator inlet area. Anyway this is the 1st place that I'd look for a fix.
Thats not uncommon. The fans dont turn on until around 220-225, the cars were designed to run hotter for emissions reasons. You can get the fans to come on earlier with a tune.
Thank you for sharing your expertise. I will try the reprogramming of fans like you said " turning off then turning on AC while sitting at idle.
Gee, that is some range of coolant temp from 187 - 230 plus. Must be why Chevy wants us to use synthetic oil/ Well thank again, Nice Site !

Like stated above by another poster, clean out your radiator area. You wouldn't believe how much stuff can find its way in there. Then buy two bottles of Redline Water Wetter. My 2001 would get as hot as 225-230 while stopped in traffic. After cleaning the radiator area, a coolant flush, and two bottles of Water Wetter, it only gets to about 205-210.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your car, it's running perfectly fine. The temps can vary widely depending on speed of motion. Your temps are not high at all. However, it still doesn't hurt to get under the nose and clean out any debris, you won't believe the amount of junk that gets stuck under there. I once found a MickeyD fry container wedged up in there. You can also consider a screen under the nose to keep keep objects from getting up in there. There are some aftermarket screens available or you can make your own for a lot less money by shopping around your local home improvement store. One vendor sells one for $50 that I was able to duplicate for about a couple of bucks.
If the temps still bother you, your next step is a lower temp thermostat and some one who can program your fans to come on earlier.
I am here in southen Nevada where the temps are normally over 100 every day during the summer. With a clean radiator my temp stays between 200 and 210 all day long with or without the A/C.
