I have a 06 DSOM Vert, which I have been completely happy with as my first vette. However, time to step up and I am working a deal with my local dealer on an 08 Z. I am ordering Victory Red and am setting up museum delivery (taking my 17 yr old son with me to make a road trip back to texas out of it). They have a slot 6 weeks out if I close this week. Would like to get some input from you guys.
1. Trade or Sell the Vert? I think I have them at 45 for the trade in which is what KBB says is typical. Might get more but don't want to have to wait for it to sell
2. 3LZ or 2LZ? Is the upgraded interior really worth it?
3. Are any of you finding Z's under sticker? I am going to get sticker, but they won't budge off and won't give me the GM supplier discount that I am eligible for (yeah, guess i'm cheap).
4. Planning to do mods at time of purchase including screens for all the vents, color matched door handles, and after purchase adding the full width color matched rear spoiler. So any other suggestions (performance mods will come later)?
You should tell the dealer immediately that you are NOT going to trade your vert even if you plan on doing so. That way, you can negotiate your bottom dollar on the new Z as if you were paying cash for it. Once you are happy on a purchase price, you can then tell your dealer that you want to trade your convertible. Then you can negotiate your selling price to them. Don't get nervous when they throw you a low ball number on the trade at this point as they know you have them by the *****. Since you both have already agreed on the new car purchase price (don't budge a dollar now), they have to show you exactly what they are willing to put into yours. It's the best of both worlds because you control the buying and the selling price rather than them bunching it all together and showing you a payment. Most people don't understand that when a person trades their car to a dealer for whatever price, that price is not actually what they are buying their car for.
