Go with the C6. Better performance, brand new car and 100K warranty. Hard to beat that.

With all due respect to Mike Antonick and his Black Book, it is not always the final authority on information. Here's a link to an official press release from Chevrolet announcing that the C5 will pace the Indy 500 in 1998 dated November 6, 1997. The document clearly states the color name in the third paragraph as Radar Blue.

I'm not to much of a fan of the Pace Cars IMHO!

They are nice to look at in my taste but for "ME" I'd rather have the C6 if I had the choice!

Remember IMHO! Only!

Thanks,Matt

Some call it pace car purple but it technically is called Radar Blue. It was also used on the S10 and blazer for a model year as well as the SSR.

First off if you like the pace car then don't let anyone tell you otherwise that its ugly or hideaous. There jealous! You will find an equal number of haters and lovers for both the pace car and C6 or any car for that matter. What you should be weighing is the "other factors". I will leave my personal opinions of either out of this one....though you can guess I love my 98 pace car.

One more thing I will say. My 98 pace car even with 20,000 miles is retaining its value far better than any other 98 vette or C5 for that matter with a few exceptions out there. However for me that is not the reason I own one.

1.) How much do you want to spend? An low mileage pace car should run you in the neighborhood of $30-$40,000, especially if you find one that is virtually undriven. There has been a few on Ebay. C6....well you know that your looking at nearly double.

2.) Warranty on a 98 - Not going to have one if that is going to worry you. A low mileage 98 C5 pace car or not.....you have very little to worry about! C6 - warranty.

3.) Some people must have the latest and greatest = C6. Chance to own on of the most outrageaous and coolest corvette pace cars ever = 98 pace car!

4.) Owning a 98 pace car is special. It's limited. Most people have never seen one. Just the other day a guy and his coworkers were walking into the restuarant we were just leaving and the guy commented that he has been to every indy race since 1986 and doesn't remember ever seeing this pace car. Chances are you will be the only one around that will have this car. I know there is at least one in the area and I rarely see them. Most people call me up and ask if that was me or not.

There are other factors I'm sure but my time is limited tonight. In short if you have the chance to own a low mileage 98 pace car and really like it then you really should sieze the opportunity to do so. You may look back on it and regret that you didn't! Own it for a couple of years and sell it on ebay for what you paid for it and then buy a C6 then you will have had the best of both worlds and enjoyed yourself!

My vote is clearly the 98! Either way you will have fun!

If you get an 08 with the LS3 and upgraded interior I say go with the new C6 and not a 10 year old Vette.

I personally would not waste my money on the C6, unless it was a Z06. That is where the performance REALLY comes into play. THAT is a driver's car.

I fell in love with the '98 Pace car as it was the first convertible I ever saw, and It was sexy! I own a black 2000 vert, because my wife thought the yellow leather was hideous (we had the option of getting the pace car before we bougth the triple black one).

Someday, I will own a '98 pace car.

Now, the '04 Z16 is another C5 that I long to own. I believe it is the pretty one of the speical edition C5 vettes. I had an opportunity to sell my vert and get one with under 10,000 miles, but couldn't give up the topless cruizing. I then decided that I had to have a vert in the stable. My second Vette could be a coupe.

Now that I own a C3 for fun, I am free to save up for a Z06.

As far as offering you advice, buy the '98 unless you have enough to buy a C6 vert. You will get much more enjoyment out of cruising with the top down than cruising with the roof out of the coupe. The wind buffeting takes all the fun out of having the roof off.

Now, back to your regular programming...

c5 pace car = collector car/garage queen (am I right?)

c6 of any kind = daily driver or more frequently driven (again, am I right?)

I would want to drive mine, so I'd go c6.
