A novice but good mechanic here I am passing on upgrading it myself. I am buying the parts and takeing it to a respectable shop for the install. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Plus you should get a warrenty if they mess up the install, do it yourself you can only blame one person.
A good mechanic can do this on about , maybe 3 hours..........he'll make it look like he's done it a million times...........make sure he seals everything up really good.
If you buy a good used gear carrier ask him to reseal it to avoid the leaky rear end bug in the future.
Believe it or not.. my dealer was the cheapest when I did it.
If you have an a4, have them replace the seal on the trany at the same time. There's a TSB on them leaking in cold weather and it's only $60 while they're in there. If you don't, and it starts leaking, you'll have to pull the carrier again.. and pay again... go ahead and ask me how I know.
Slap a Yank 3200/3600 in there, while your at it!!
The combo is dramatic. I can't tell the difference between the stock converter and the 3200 Yank, until I hit the pedal. I was always worried about the "slip". In normal driving I really don't notice any slip. Glad I did it. With just bolt ons, my car is pretty responsive. From the factory, it was a pig.
