Default Fire Extiguisher?

I have been wanting to put a Fire Extigiusher in my 01 Z06 since I bought it. Something about not having a car saving tool bothers me.

Anyone here running there Z06 on the street with one anchored in front of one of the seats? Is it comfortable or in the way? Thanks

It would definitely suck to have a fire and have to stand and watch helplessly.

I know another forum member had his car catch on fire and I'm sure he would give anything to go back and put one in.

I have a HALON extinguisher in my Z16 and a powder extinguisher in my Silverado. I've always had an extinguisher in my vehicles...just in case. I've never had to use one.
I used to carry the HALON extinguisher in my trunk, which in my mind would encourage me to GET OUT OF THE CAR IN CASE OF FIRE. That's still my advice if your car is the one on fire.
I now have a BREY KRAUSE mount on the passenger side. I used spacers under the extinguisher bracket on the two top bolts to tilt the extinguisher at an angle, reducing the chance of a passenger possibly getting caught on the handles. My wife still doesn't like it there.

Default ummm

well I still want to put one in my car I am just wonder if I should put in front of the driver's seat or he passenger seat. I will never put a roll cage in so thats a no go.

Will my wife be comfortable with the extiguisher under her legs? I suppose I can try it either way to find out....

My wife is tall and always has the seat back all the way. When she exits the car she's careful not to scrape the inner rockers. She doesn't even come close to the extinguisher.

Ok my wife is about 5' 5''.. so she isn't to tall. Also does the corvette brackets allow the seat to move forward and back as normal?

It does limit the forward adjustment of the seat, which doesn't bother me. It's easy to remove if that's required. It's not like someone is sitting in the back seat. My passenger seat is always in the most rearward position.
If you have a power passenger seat, you must install the provided limiting bracket.
You have to remove the plastic bolt covers for the installation of the mount, but you can modify them with a DREMEL if you want to replace them for appearance.
There are other fire extinguisher mounts available, some that mount to racing lap belts, for instance. BREY KRAUSE is the most commonly used based on past discussions.
In past discussions, some suggested making your own which would seem easy to do if you're a DIY'er with the materials and welding abilities.
I got mine on EBAY with a new powder AMEREX extinguisher from a seller who didn't list it by manufacturer name. It got no other bids. I paid $42.50 for both!

So you use the 1.25 lb one? Is it on a mount? or just in the car? PICS?

One in each car unmounted.

Comes with a mount, but I have not used.

I think it is a requirement that it be mounted for some tracks.

If I'm unlucky enough to have my Z catch fire I will stand by and watch it melt. I wouldn't even want to bother with trying to save it. Then I will go take the insurance check and buy a newer one.

I'm not really sure I could do that..... I mean if it bursts into flame and its between hurting myself and saving the Z, then I will save myself.... but I really would rather be prepared for a small fire than not.

I really get attached to vehicles too. So watching it burning and just buying a new one would be depressing. I really Love everything about my current Z. color and modds....Its one of 352 white Z06s!!!!

Dear God!!!! I hope I never get a call like that!!!

I talked to my wife today... She doesn't want an extiguisher for her car... She probably would just run away from her burning car anyway. Its a Ford anyway.....

The Z will be getting an extiguisher though... I bought a trunk organizer so the extiguisher will go in it till I figure out whether I want the bracket up front or not....

I have a 2 1/2 lb halon extinguisher mounted on the bracket that attaches to the front of the seat. The extinguisher is red so it matches my car's scheme, torch red with black interior. Since I'm the only one that drives my car it doesn't matter to me that it restricts forward travel a little. You can increase forward travel by cutting down the stop that comes with the bracket. In every day use you will never notice the extinguisher is there. It's not in the way of getting in and out. Good buy.

Vetteworks has fire extinguishers brackets for installation in front of the passenger seat for '97 thru '08 Corvettes. Brackets fasten to the front two seat rails. It installes and is removed in seconds. The C605 bracket must be installed with the seat adjusted fully back. There will be a small amount of forward seat adjustment once the bracket is in place. The brackets can securely mount any Amerex fire extinguisher up to 2.5 LBS.
GM exclusive uses Vetteworks C605 Brackets in all of their official 2006 C6 Z06 Brickyard 400 and Indy 500 Corvettes.

I got one awhile ago from a buddy that sold his t1 car, and mounted to floor with a brey krause mount.
I do probably 8 to 10 track days a year, and a couple spots make you have a fire system mounted in the front of the car, and besides im around enough car stuff that you never know

Nice pics. Thanks. I may end up putting on in just to see how it looks and feels. I'm sure in a emergency I would want it really close.

VETTEDAN- I don't think I have ever seen that setup in a pace car. I suppose that is a picture of a real track car though. It really doesn't stand out to much in the C6. The C5's seats look lower than the C6 though.

Thanks

They were installed in the real 2006 Indy and Brickyard Pace cars. A total of 12 Corvette.
Here's a C5 with a Vetteworks set up.
