What are the best replacement tires for the Z06? The Super Car tires (OEM) didn't get very good Survey Ratings on the Tire Rack Web Site. I use my car to drive the crap out of on back country roads, dry weather, but not for drag racing. I want the same size as stock.

Most of the tests I've seen said the F1SC tire was one of the best, non race tire, for Road Racing/AutoX. (Dry) What does Tire Rack recommend as a replacement?
They recommend the F1SC as the replacement tire and the best seller. But, when you pull up the survery results they don't look too good. The best raings went to the Bridgestone SO3's, but the replacement size was not the same on the 18" tire. The 17" tire was the same replacement size as stock. BTW, I have a convertible with the Z06 Chromies for wheels.

I have to question the Tire Rack surveys. It's just anecdotal evidence, and you have no idea of the respondents qualifications to even evaluate tires! The important thing is what YOU think of the tires' performance relative to your own personal driving experience and expectations. If you feel that the Z06 performance is deficient for your driving requirements, then different tires might be an answer, but it's just as easy to go backwards by making a poor selection.
Being as how the F1 Supercar tire is only OEM on the Z06 and has only been out for a little over a year, I doubt if many have tried them on other cars. If one guy is evaluating Bridestones on a Supra you can't compare that to a guy evaluating the F1SC on a Corvette. It's apples and oranges
Remember that the Z06 suspension was set up specifically for that tire and the magazines regularly achieve 1.0g on the skidpad and just rave about the handling. I believe the Z06 is the current record holder on the skidpad for several magazines. I think the only tire that could exceed the F1 Supercar would be a DOT legal racing tire, but I'm not sure if they're available in suitable sizes for the Z06.
Goodyear positions the F1 Supercar tire as their "ultra high performance" tire optimized for maximum dry grip. The F1-GS is an "intermediate" and the F1-GS-D2 is a "rain tire." I just don't think there's anything currently available that's better, and I've recommended the F1 Supercar as a superior replacement to some friends with late model Ferraris.
Duke,
I appreciate your thoughtful answere to my question. You have raised some very good points. As you know, I am putting them on Z06 size chrome rims on a 2001 6spd Conv. Taking into consideration what you have said, I think the F1SC would be an appropriate choice.

Clicked on the "tires" name in right margin and got Tire Rack. Identified my Z06 needing tires and Tire rack says "No tires available for this vehicle"! What gives???
Well here's some new information to confuse everybody. At SEMA last week I picked up some GY brochures, and the one for ultra high performance tires lists the Eagle F1 GS (not including the Corvette's EMT versions), the F1 GS-D2 and the F1SC. The F1SC is listed in about a dozen sizes, including those used on the Z06, of course.
Now if you go to the GY web site, they don't even list the F1SC. They list the other two plus the F1 GS Fiorano. The Fiorano has a similar tread pattern to the SC and the same wear rating of 220 as the SC and is listed in the Z06 sizes. My suspicion is that the Fiorano and SC are basically the same tire, but it's understanable that GM did not want to put a tire called "Fiorano" - the name of Ferrari's inhouse test track - on a Corvette.
A friend who picked up a Goodyear racing tire catalog at the show (I forgot to ask) says that the Fiorano is also listed in the racing tire catalog, but I don't know if these are the same as those listed on the web site.
You might want to contact GY and try to get to the bottom of this since you're about ready to drop a kilobuck plus on tires. It's left me somewhat confused.
Troy,
I got it to work. It lists the SC Tires for the Z06. Did you fill in the search boxes on the opening page? BTW, there are no wheels listed for this vehicle.

I replaced my F1SC tires with a set of Toyo Proxes T1S tires. I found that they have excellent stick on dry pavement, but what blew me away was the wet performance. The roads near my house collect a lot of standing water when it rains due to gravel trucks wearing ruts in the road, and with the F1SCs I would hydroplane like crazy at speeds above 45mph. With the Proxes, my Z06 just plows right thru those puddles. Toyo makes them in the stock Z06 sizes (which was what mainly swayed me), and they are cheaper than the F1SCs. Hope that helps!

imp.
What's the web site for toyo? Tires sound awesome!!
The T1S is more optimized for wet performance as you can see from the tread design. It would probably take a side by side comparison to understand their dry performance relative to the F1SC, but I'd bet the SC would have a bit of advantage in the dry. The T1S would probably be a good choice if you live in Seattle, especially for September through June driving.
Toyo is a high quality manufacturer and they have excellent products. I run a set of their RA-1s (DOT legal racing tire) on one of my cars. They typically only sell through local independent dealers, not the mail order houses.
I agree with SWCDuke, having tried Michelin pilots and the new Pirelli P zero (315/30/18) When these wear out, I'm going back to the F1SC's. They are the best handling tires period bar none (just my opinion)

Don’t discount BFG G-Force KDs :D They’re not called “King Dry” for nothing. :D
I would be interested hearing from someone with direct experience of same size Super Car vs. G-Force KD tires.
I’m very tempted to try those new Pirellis 315/30/18s next time, but concerned that they might not be as gripy as KDs I’ve got now. Bigger size is tempting, though :yesnod:
